View Full Version : How Long Do You Give A Buyer To Pay Before Cancelling An Order?

I have two items that ended on Wednesday, one for about $60, the other for $120. Two separate buyers, neither one has paid yet. I tried sending payment reminders and even personal messages, but no response. Both have over 400 feedbacks, 100% positive, but I was wondering, how long should I wait before filing a non-payment claim and canceling the sale?
Also, I remember there used to be a way to send an offer to the next underbidder, in case of non-payment. Is there still a way to do that?
Thanks!

Second chance offers still exist.
But a lot of sellers open up cases as soon as possible: 2-3 days later. Open the nonpayment case now.

Check your settings. Ebay will open a case automatically for you after 2 days if you want. They handle the whole thing.

What do you state in your listing for payment due? If you say payment due within 7 days, you are too early.....if you say payment due within 3 days you should start the NPB process. If you didn't state anything, that's on you.
A buyer having 100% positive feedback means nothing since sellers can't leave negatives. Kind of a disservice to good buyers who deserve the 100%.

Mine was set for 3 days, so I think I’ll start the process tonight.
My only other guess was, maybe they are waiting for their eBay bucks to come through at the beginning of the month?

Update: one of the guys just paid. Another one of those buyers whose profile says based in Singapore, but shipping address is in Virginia...

There's never any need to contact buyers, send one or 2 invoices. If they don'y pay just open a NPB case.

Those are common, many buyers use reshippers and they actually work to the sellers advantage. Once item is reshipped their protection has been voided.
That said I never contact them and will open a case on day 2 if I never hear from the buyer. If they contact me before 2 days and ask me to cancel I will go ahead and just cancel and usually block them.

Does it really matter what you state? eBay rules state a seller can open a NPB after 2 days, and then the buyer has 4 days I believe to pay. Basically a week to pay.
