PayPal Payment on Hold? eBay Question

Just sold my first item on eBay and got this message. Is this standard? Does it really take 21 days to get my money?

“Payment from this sale is on eBay hold

eBay has requested that the funds from this eBay sale be held temporarily. Money that is on eBay hold will automatically move to your available balance within 21 days.”

The last year or so I get that anytime i ship somewhere new. Usually if i ship tracked once the package is confirmed delivered they release the funds. I just shipped to ireland 2 weeks ago and it was held. Once delivery was confirmed i was able to access the money. So only 10 days. Bit of a pain, but not that much.

The money will usually be freed up for you to use after the buyer has left you positive feedback for the transaction. It's totally standard to put a hold on the funds for new sellers. Nothing to be concerned about. After you establish a good selling history your funds will be available immediately.

They did aeay with the feedback part a while back was too easily abused. Too many sellers were demanding feedback before shipping to free the funds. Tracking showing delivered usually frees it up within 24 hours.

This doesn't surprise me at all. Very good information.

From the communication I've had with ebay to get out of the hold you have to be selling constantly no long selling hiatus, 250 minimum in sales, and 25 completed sales with tracking showing delivered. The hold for the funds used to be 72 hours after tracking shows delivered but has recently been reduced to 24 hours. (information is "accurate" as per the rep I spoke with roughly 2 weeks ago.)

Ok so more questions on my first 3 sales on eBay. When do all fees get taken out? Are there discounts for my first few deals? Here is a break down of what my paypal shows for the first 3 sales. Shouldn't the fees be more from ebay/paypal? I was thinking they were 10% from ebay and 3% from paypal?

1) $1,009.99 with shipping (fee says $29.59)
2) $36.50 with shipping (fee says $1.91)
3) $88.00 with shipping (fee says $2.85)

Ebay fees are not taken out of the payment. You will have to pay those separately. The fee you are seeing is the Paypal portion of the fees.

Why does the Paypal fee vary from sale to sale? Is it not a flat 3% fee? Do they take a % of the shipping fees or are those excluded?

Looks like they charged me the international 4.4% rate for the 2nd sale.

Buyer probably had it shipped to an address in Washington State or COMC Mailbox, but their Paypal account is based internationally.

Yeah I think they are Chinese but it went to COMC. So even though it ships to the US, we get charged the international rate? Is there a way to set up my ebay to account for this?

set up for what exactly?

the fee is based on where the funds come from, not where the item is shipped. they (more than likely) paid in a non us dollar currency which has to be exchanged.

Set up to avoid paying extra paypal fees. Feel like the extra costs shouldn't fall on the seller if you don't know.

If the payment comes from outside the US then it is charged at a higher rate. Its just a cost of doing business. There are many buyers who use third party reshippers. You can go in and block payments from outside the US in Paypal them but you run the risk of creating bigger headaches.

What’s the general consensus on offers on eBay from members with zero feedback? I know everyone has to start somewhere like I did. If it was a $5 item I would do it. Hairy, any feedback?

I will sometimes take them other times not, depends more on the item. If its piece of women's clothing I am less likely to take it than a card, womens clothing is one of the highest scam categories out there. Feedback really means nothing, some of the most problematic bidders out there have thousands of feedback. They use their feedback to cover their tracks. I get more unpaid items on buyers over 1000 feedback than buyers under 50. Also have more cases from the same class of buyer.

You’re only protected if you ship to the verified address that comes up once they pay in eBay. If the buyer contacts you with a different address and you chose to allow that then you’re sending at your risk entirely. (Safest option is cancel and refund.)

If you use eBay’s Global Shipping Program, you’re safe once it shows delivered to the GSP address in the US (in Kentucky I think).

Any chance one total includes taxes that eBay charged to the buyers (and withholds), but the other doesn’t?

I have noticed on some of my selling screens it shows the tax the buyers paid and others do not so this could be.
