1998-99 Molten Metal Fusion Titanium /40 image search - Help Request from the Forum

Hi all,

I'm doing a little research on 90's inserts, and decided to use 1998-99 Molten Metal Fusion Titanium /40 as a test set given it's small set size (20) and small print run. Part of what I'm doing is trying to find images of every single card from the set in existence. I think it'll be interesing to know what percentage of the 90's sets are knowable/findable. I've been using worthpoint and google images, but only found images of 64 of the 800 (20 cards multiplied by 40 of each). I really thought I would get to a number closer to 15-20% with a lot more ease.

Anyways, long story short, if you own one, or have access to get an image of one that hasn't been sold or shown off in a public forum, can you post it here? If you don't want it known publicly, but are happy to let me use the card serial number for my study, a PM works well too. Thank you all for the help!

I don’t actually know the answers to this other than I saw Nat Turner post a box break a couple months ago and actually he pulled the MJ /250. I’m sure I could find the odds, but I don’t believe they’re easy to pull, obviously.

I did. Thanks for posting. It’s actually the only one of him I’ve found. Still haven’t even seen a Jamison. Have an image of at least one of every other player. Have over 10 of Vince and MJ.

Thanks for posting the Hughes /40. I’m not sure what the right terminology is though I’ve seen that Beckett used the word titanium on both the /250 and /40.

The only KG I've consistently seen is the 20/40 version, so don't know if you have that one, but it'll be around. :)!

The day I pulled it (actually my first box ever of it) I listed it on eBay and nieve to the scammers of the hobby I was quickly contacted by Carolinablue88. Frances greenbaum was the name and he made me an offer and I took it. A few days later he "never got it" and opened a case, he won of course. Now every now and again a seller in Maryland (he was from maryland, I'm very sure he had several usernames) lists a bunch of vince cards and displays serial numbers....except this one he covers up. Long story short do not deal Vince things to Maryland and 17/40 has been pulled.

I think you're looking at the wrong odds.
The /250 are listed at 1:192 packs
The /40 are 1:1152

The 2880 pack odds is the minimum number of packs, needed to complete the 30 card metal fusion set at 1:96

THis is also how I read it. Your sheets like this are a treasure trove, man. I know I’ve said that at least five times. But I’m gonna day it another ten. At least.

So if the /40’s are 1:1152 packs and there are 800 of them that puts the entire run of the product at 921,000 packs.

i just remembered that i was searching for stoudamire one day in the bball groups im in and there was an older request listed for someone needing a stoudamire /40 fusion, i told him i have one and its the only one ive seen, and he tried to buy mine - but yeah, never happening etc - but he did say he was only missing 2 i think, damon being one.

ill try fish out the msg again and see if he has scans or point him here :)

In fact, believe it or not, that is the ONLY image of an Antawn Jamison on this list thus far. I had only found a sale on the PWCC transaction finder from like 10+ years ago but it didn't have a picture. Very very cool.

We're now up to 86 of a possible 800 serial numbers for a 10.7% of total population represented. Every player is represented at least once.

12 Vince Carter's are accounted for. And for Michael Jordan, Kevin Garnett, and Tim Duncan, nine copies are included.

Three players only have one image available. Antawn Jamison, Damon Stoudemire and (kind of surprisingly) Grant Hill.

This is a HUGE addition to my research. Thank you so much for posting. A few questions.

1. I can't see the Larry Hughes serial number.

2. Is Antawn Jamison 6 or 8 /40? I can't tell from the picture.

3. Is Antoine Walker 1 or 7 /40? I think it's 1, but not 100%.

4. I think there are several pictures of cards that you have that are missing from IG. Unless I'm mistaken, I don't see Hill, AI, KG, and possibly others.

Even without those, this is a big group of additions. I only had 2-3 of the ones that I can see in the tracker. That puts us at 97/800 total serial numbers. Thank you all. We're only 23 cards away from the 15% that I was initially hoping to reach.

We do have at least one of every card now, you're right. Still only one Damon, Jamison and Hill. But for the purposes of the study, I'd still like another 19 or more serial numbers. :)

Update - Up to 104 SN's accounted for of 800 total. Thank you to those of you who have tagged me on cards on IG, PM'd me, etc. I appreciate it. As mentioned in the first post, the purpose of this study was in researching serial numbers. Part of what I was wondering was what percentage of these cards were findable. I originally guessed that we would find 20-30%. We're currently at 13%.

I'm also looking at whether there are any other interesting findings from the study. I am excited to share a few things, but I would like a larger sample before sharing anything else specifically.

Here are two more.

Beckett and PSA grading services have for years incorrectly labelled Fusion and Fusion titanium cards when they have made it through their grading service. Here is some additional information that make these cards even more rare and clarifies some of the grading mistakes in their existing population reports:

For the Fusion set
Cards 31-50 were randomly inserted in packs and serially numbered to 250. Due to a production problem, 15 of the 20 Supernatural cards were produced with an incorrect fron tlogo. Thus, these cards were serially nmbered to 40, rather than the 250. Five players remain correct - Michael Jordan, Stephon Marbury, Shawn Kemp, Allen Iverson, and Grant Hill

For the Fusion Titanium Set
Cards 31-50, the supernatural subset, were randomly inserted in packs and serially numbered to 40. Due to a production error, 15 of the 20 Supernatural cards were incorrectly serially numbered to 250, rather than to 40.

I haven't seen a sealed box of this product for sale in quite a while - what's the ballpark sales value when they do surface?

Looks like they only made about 3200 12 box cases of this product.

I once pulled a Shareef /40 from a single box back then and traded it away fairly in the same time in 1999 or so. He used to collect Shareef but I don't know if he still does. But he's on here and goes by KaiserKing99. Maybe you ask him. Don't remember but it was 27/40 or something.
