View Full Version : Weird non-paying bidder shenanigans

Last Friday I accepted a $50 best offer on a $60 item. Buyer did not pay immediately which is not out of the ordinary.

Sometime that weekend I used send invoice as a reminder to pay, then messaged him on Tuesday asking him for payment.

Silence.

On Wednesday I opened a non-paying buyer case, which can be closed 4 days later. The due date is tonight in about an hour.

I just got an email 10 minutes ago from PayPal that I've been sent the money, but it's on hold and the transaction is under "PayPal Payment Review"

This whole thing is setting off alarm bells, and I DO NOT want to sell to this guy, but also don't want to get a neg or something.

What would you do in this situation?

You may have to wait for the review to complete than go from there. If it goes through and you refund you could face negative feedback and everything else. If the case can be closed while its under review I would do that then refund when it clears. (If it clears)

If it lets me close the unpaid item case in an hour and receive final fee credit, should I do that?

I would.. That way no matter what he should not be able to leave you any feedback at all should it go through and you refund.

So I closed the case and marked No that buyer did not provide payment, but the Order status when I view it says "Ready to Ship" and the on hold Paypal Transaction is still in my account.

Did the order actually cancel or is there someone else I need to do? First unpaid item I've dealt with.

I am not sure. However if it not in your account and still says pending review I would not do anything. Last one I had go to review got reversed and the strike was given and I relisted, but it was 24 hours before the claim could be closed so the timing is different,

YOu should be able to check on the item and see if there is a leave feedback link if not then it was canceled. Also should be able to go to your account and see the actual credit.

I do have the option to leave feedback so I guess it's not cancelled. I'll wait to see what happens with the Paypal transaction.
