They are the same years as the junk wax era of baseball, so is it safe to assume they are virtually worthless? Lots of unopened packs. 1990-91 Pro Set Series 2, etc....

The late 80s for hockey isn't as bad as baseball, particularly 1987 and 1988.

1990-91 is when hockey exploded in the number of companies producing cards. Pro Set, unfortunately, is the cheapest of the cheap. However, there are error cards that exist that can fetch a decent amount.

1990-91 OPC Premier was the best set from that year, but I'm guessing that wasn't part of your acquisition. Upper Deck had a nice debut set, but it doesn't go for much and it's still easy to find. There is an infamous French version that went for a ton at the time, and then Upper Deck printed a lot more and ruined that. It's kind of a shame, because 1990-91 had a fantastic rookie crop.

The rest of the early 90s has a pretty similar story, though there are some hidden gems in there.

Apparently there is a Stanley Cup card insert that is kinda rare. I'm gonna go looking for that!!

Yeah, it's a Stanley Cup hologram. The most recent sales are in the $200-$250 range, but it's tough. People bust cases looking for it and can't find it. Good luck!

Being from Canada I have tons of that stuff as well, 5 boxes at 3200 each that I have to sort through... Pro Set stuff is very low value but as mentioned above, there are some cards that hold value.. I love going through all the older stuff to see what I can find.

I guess, unlike baseball, football and basketball, I just have no idea even when I do find something. I know the icons of hockey, but not much else. I guess Jagr and Federov have rookies in these sets, so that is pretty cool. Don't care if they are worth anything really. Not the main reason I collect.

With Proset, the hologram is always the go to card, but it is also LITTERED with error cards, and it is a lot of fun to try and figure out which one you have. The even nicer thing is you can actually get money for a few of them!
