I just received my first PSA submission results and 7 cards came back as altered stock?? The funny thing is I've had these cards in card sleeves since the day I bought them at the local convenience store in 1986....They were 5 Rice rookie cards..1 Marino rookie, 1 Marcus Allen rookie, and 1 Elway rookie....How can they be graded as N5 altered???? I literally just got them out of my garage 32 years later pulled them from the holders I had them in and submitted them to be graded....This is them before I put them in card savers to ship to PSA..That is so confusing to me??? It really sucks!!!! I wasn’t expecting 10’s but was hoping to be graded and slabed... https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190905/8d002dde9519a11fe4fc05632413812d.jpg

Did you measure them?
All the trimming scandals have rocked their world :)

Card savers + being stored in a garage for 32 years = Flattened corners I would guess

They were screw downs I put them in about 5 years ago...I took them out of those page sleeves in a notebook and had no idea the hard screw downs would cause so much damage...they look great sharp corners, nice edges...thought they would grade decently..

They were in those protective pages that hold 9 cards and were inside a notebook...what I did was take them out and put them in those hard heavy screw downs about 5 years ago...stupid...if I only knew..

If I used my 15 vouchers from joining the Platinum Membership and 8 out of the 15 cards came back as N5:Altered Stock for having them in those screw down slabs...and they came back ungraded...do you think PSA would give me those 8 vouchers back to resubmit? It would be nice to have a graded slab...

This is the reason. The screw downs pressed the card so that it is thinner and PSA will give those Altered Stock. Because pressing cards in screw downs can also remove wrinkles or creases. If you had left them in toploaders, they should have been fine.

No, since the cards were analyzed and given the grade of Altered. If they were MINSIZE (just cut small from the manufacturer), they would have given you refunds of your vouchers.

Man that sucks! On another note I think Marcus Allen is secretly Anthony Davis's father!

Yeah and I’m probably just better off buying an already graded PSA 8 or 9 rather than spend money on resubmitting them for sentimental reasons...That’s one thing I’ve learned about card grading is that it’s easier and cheaper just to buy an already graded 8 or 9...or even a 10..

Totally agree and have learned myself the hard way. Unless you have some older superstars in excellent/better condition or newer superstars in Mint or better (LBJ, Brady, MJ, Trout, Mahomes, etc.) buying already slabbed is smarter. I sent in many nice newer rookies straight from packs that were PSA 9’s and would be lucky to break even if I sold.
