Jacoby Brissett pickup

Just got this card. Had to have one since he’s my teams QB now. On card is always a must. Question: Is this an actual rookie? I don’t even know what makes one a “real” rookie anymore. It’s numbered like a regular card, so I assume it is :confused: Anyway, got it for way less than I would think. No clue what parallel this is either. First non Luck or Manning pickup in years.

There are several versions of that card, you have the silver spotlight jersey. Personally I would consider the non jersey /99 auto,
2016 Limited #142 Jacoby Brissett, the rc and the others parallels. (Although I think that is a rc also...just not the basic rc.)

I also don't think there is a correct answer in that sport cards have never had a nomenclature committee. So we really have no official definition of rc….just opinions. Without such, any rookie year card is a rookie card.

Also, Beckett seems to consider the 2016 Limited #201 Jacoby Brissett JSY AU/299 his rc. I would go the first card in the set...like we always did with other sets. Beckett also is meaningless on such to me since Dr. James Beckett left them.

I used to be a real stickler for the, “True RC.” It seems now though a lot of sets are doing away with traditional base sets that include base rookies, and only making 100 Vets as the base set, and then having multiple diff subsets for Autos and Mem.

So now I just go by the card itself. Is it part of a base set or does it have the RC logo on it? If yes, it’s a Rookie Card as per the manufacturer, which is good enough for me.

"True RPAs" usually have a card number that aligns with the numbering of the base set. For example, 2016 Limited's base runs #1-100, and the first RPA is #101. The card you posted is #201 and is the set's "true RPA."

Brissett isn't the best example because the numbering for a lot of his RPAs is kind of odd for a lot of sets. He didn't attend the rookie premiere, so his RPAs were last-minute additions tacked on to the end of sets. 2016 Limited breaks down like this:

1-100: Vet base
101-140: True RPAs
142-200: Rookie autos (also "true" RCs)
201-203: True RPAs (Brissett, Malcolm Mitchell, Tajae Sharpe)

This particular set looks complicated, but the general rule I mentioned at the beginning still stands. If the card's numbering continues from the base set, it's a true RPA/RC. It's crucial to know this for sets like NT because of the drastic price differences between true RPAs and other RPAs, but it's probably not really a huge deal for mid-tier sets like Limited.

I picked up five new Brissett rookies over the last few days. I got a horizontal contenders, which is the first sticker I have ever bought. One is a 1/1 Phoenix unsigned rookie BGS 9 (why grade a 1/1 lol), and a few more signed rookies. Ebay doesn’t let me save pics so I will post them as I get the cards in the mail.

I’m focusing on just the really low numbered stuff and on card auto rookies. The NT is already blown past what I would pay, but most of his other cards are still really reasonable. I saw a NT a few weeks ago go for $187 and last night the same one went for $485.

Got in hand. The card looks a lot nicer in person. The EBay pic was against a black border and really made the edges look cruddy. I was pleasantly surprised when I got the card in much better condition than expected.

Lol probably would be playoff win. I really thought it was a cool looking card too :)I’m starting to look at Mack and some other current Colts for the collection. I am loving picking up these pretty rare Jacoby cards for so cheap. This collection is 110% for my love of the Colts and any possible price increase is just a little possible icing on the cake.

Thrilled to have won this! The card is from 2011. Some sort of parallel I believe #’d 2/5 with a full, on card autograph. Obviously is a pre rookie, but still super neat. I’m shocked they can get amateurs to sign for a card set. I guess the players get nothing for doing so?

Nice. Kinda how mine is, would much rather as him succeed above making anything. But I think slowly over time he will rise a bit. Either way I think there will be a handful of collectors who just like the dude and want a nice collection of him.

Seeing more rumblings of him on IG so it appears they are starting to.

The problem with Jacoby he is soooo cheap that I think people have a hard time convincing themselves to pay, let's say double what the last sale was on something. I can understand how this is hard to do esp with 95% of everyone still looking at him as Andrew Luck's backup.

That is beginning to fade and with some easy wins on the horizon as they make a strong run at the division title and possibly a first round bye, more will take note.

Interested to see this. Broncos have only allowed one multi TD passer against Minshew...Mahomes and Moore each had one last week so that seems like it still counts. Rivers and Rodgers 1 ea.

IMO 255 and 2 would be huge against Denver pass D. He's averaging a little over 10 yds per completion so may need a few more attempts to reach 250 but I wouldn't mind if he finally uncorked a bomb or two. Biggest highlight in his arsenal and we've yet to see one this year. Saw quite a few in 2017 when he was going through growing pains.

Raw. I grade a good amount and 2016 is the toughest year I’ve come across. None seemed like they were worth the shot plus he shot up about 4-5x after Luck.

I traded $35 value for the Blue Wave Auto /149 at a show two weekends ago and bought the Red Crystal /75 on eBay right after the game Sunday for $23 due to a bad listing and it being a 0 feedback seller, which I view as a steal!

That /75 was a really good deal. There is one on EBay right now for $60 with time to spare. With the red jersey that card looks really sharp. I see d bag in the background of that Prizm.

It looks pretty nice. The card came in a sleeve and toploader, both beat to heck. Why not spring for a nice sleeve, holder and team bag for a card that cost that much? A slightly soft corner and a bit of extra foil on the RC symbol. I know next to nothing about grading new stuff, but I would say 8.5 or 9? Anyway, I’m gonna grade it just so I know and I will have it protected. I stuck a few generic card over it and it’s definitely not trimmed.

For anyone that grades do you send to PSA in a top load or one touch? I know PSA asks for those semi rigid holders, but I would much rather ship in the sleeve and topload.

I have tickets to next weeks game against the Dolphins, which Brissett will most likely miss with a knee sprain. WTH...lol hopefully Hoyer can hold down the fort for a bit.

I would imagine Brissett cards will sink some if he misses some games. I wouldn’t mind picking up a /99 NT true rookie if the price drops some. I saw two cheaper ones being auctioned now, but both had smeared autographs...pass.

I wouldn’t anticipate being able to make a killing off him this year except maybe playoffs if they make a run (I think they can). The bigger payoff would be a year or two from now imo. Think it’ll take a good amount of winning which I can see happening in due time.

Sucked to see Nelson hurt him, surely he did not feel good about that. Here’s to hoping he plays and here’s to his future success. I am a long term believer otherwise would’ve bailed on this when Luck left.

This is the first Prizm I’ve picked up, so that’s pretty cool that it’s scarce. There are so many Brissett rookies that I’m trying to get really low numbered ones only from here on out.

I've got most of what I'm gonna get for Brissett, but will look for cheaply priced rookies after the season. I'm also going to send a lot of this in to PSA and will update with the cards slabbed. Also going to look at other NT rookie parallels besides the /25 that I have and see if they get cheap enough to pick up.

The Colts are expected to look at a QB in the draft, hopefully as a later round backup. The weak finish and drafting a qb should drop Brissetts prices even lower than their current super low prices lol. Even if this collection turns out to be worthless it didn't cost a lot and was really fun to put together.

Gen pop will expect them to move on bc he’s not Luck but Reich himself said Jacoby’s his guy. He def gets another year and hopefully with a much healthier roster and a full offseason he can take that breakout step forward. I like his odds.

They have to give him 2020, but he's gonna be on a short leash. If they draft a QB and he struggles early he could find himself a backup again really fast. The SB window is tiny for any team that's not NE, and the Colts aren't going to waste this lineup with a lackluster QB. They torpedoed 2019 by sticking with the longest tenured veteran out of I suppose misguided loyalty, so I doubt they will be in the giving mood in 2020.

I said in the general Colts thread that now would be the time to sign Brissett to a long term deal. He would never be cheaper than right now, and everyone understands he's got the best situation in Indy, even if that means as a backup. If he plays great the Colts would have the cheapest veteran QB and could obviously use that cap to build a monster. If he doesn't play so great he would end up a slightly higher paid backup than most, but probably more talented too.

I obviously like the guy a lot and really hope he takes the leap next season.
