ouch...
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Drew Brees is slated to miss six weeks with a torn thumb ligament.
Brees couldn't grip the ball after jamming his thumb in a collision with Aaron Donald in Sunday's loss to the Rams. He'll need surgery to fix it, which will require a six-week recovery. A model of durability throughout his career, Brees hasn't logged more than two absences in a season (with most of those coming in meaningless Week 17 games) since 2003. Teddy Bridgewater is a capable backup with 29 games of starting experience, though his presence is still a downgrade for the likes of Michael Thomas, Alvin Kamara and likely Jared Cook as well.

I feel bad for the guy and the Saints. As a Colts fan all I can say is at least he didn't retire.

A little left hand conversion therapy should fix this, right?
Not a surprise, that was what was expected. And actually it could have been much worse.

If.......and it's a HUGE IF......the Saints can manage 4-4 while he's out (and Brees returns healthy), they could make a playoff run avoiding the "noodle arm" controversy during last 4 games of last year.
Yeah, I know, I'm the eternal optimist. Just come back healthy, Drew. I'd like to see you own the career TD record for a little while at least (Brady easily takes it this year).

I think the one thing we have going for us is that the NFC South seems to be a mess this year with Atlanta probably the best team now as long as Ryan stays healthy Bridgewater/Hill would have to go 3-3. How long of a leash does Payton Give Bridgewater before going with Hill is an intriguing question for me

No, no, no. We need to hype up Teddy B once again and THEN it will be Hill's turn.

Six weeks might be enough to heal, but it'll take another few weeks to get back into gripping strength so he can play normally. This is a lost year in my opinion.
Man, NO fans must be jinx'd. First, the Minneapolis miracle two years ago, last year's blown PI call, and now this.

Sucks to hear. As much as I cheer bad calls and missed plays for the saints as karma for bountygate, injuries are an entirely different animal. I wish injuries on no nfl player or team. NFL is always better when the best are playing

So they were cursed with 6 super bowl rings? Just doesn’t make sense. Must be how some on here view karma. :)

Does a New England fan really have room to talk about Gate scandals?

The Falcons will still screw it up, don't worry

Of course they do. What do they care if their team has scandals that don’t stop them from winning 6 rings.

Yes, because none of New England's scandals featured attempts to injure other players. They just "cheated."

Darnit, why didn't this happen last year when the Packers owned the Saints 1st rounder?
i had this same surgery last year. They stitched my UCL back together at my thumb. My injury was from softball. Some guy thought it was cool to run into my glove (he was still out), but messed up my thumb.
I can say that I can still not grip my left thumb the same as before surgery.
