Sorry if the title is hard to understand.
If a player has a rookie in "The Cup" but its just a base card.
How in comparison to a Young Guns Rookie would the value be?
On one hand, I feel like the Cup should easily be 2x-5x the YG, but it seems YG's outsell just about all cards that arent signed (except Ice /99)
So I guess, would you rather have
2x The Cup Rookies /249
or
5x Young Guns
For Potential to flip for value down the road

I collect YGs and will form stock piles so YGs. It also gives me the chance to divest over time, if you are asking from an investment standpoint.

The Cup print run number 249 - or if you are lucky you get an RC numbered of 99. having no patch.. sure - but its still The Cup.
Young Guns production probably in the tens of thousands.. if not hundreds of thousands.
UD still gets orders for 2016-17 UD retail and since there are no numbered or signed cards in it - they still keep printing it and thats not to mention all the original print run and blasters etc they make - are you kidding me?
How can one of the most in demand years product -- still get more product this far along after.
there are less people buying the cup versions because over time you wont see them
but you will see lots of YG.
I never buy Young Guns... when I see fellow collectors with multiple 100 counts of them
Unfortunately - its the price guide influencing things - when they base their 'whats hot?' page - all YGs - on an extremely overproduced product its very unfortunate.
For the exact same reasons that early 90s RCs have little or no value for RCs of some HOF players -- ie overproduction - YGs is just too overproduced.
There is no doubt in my mind that the Conor McDavid Young Guns RC was printed way more than a Score Martin Brodeur RC as an example -- but the thinking is that those 90s years products were so overproduced -- but the same people just ignore how much crazy amounts of YGs get made. For example - I know for a fact - my local Walmart took in over 100 cases of 2016-17 UD blasters back then..multiply that times so many Walmarts ... and then ToysRUs.. and so on
Many collectors figure since I cant get my hands on a RC numbered of 99 or even 249 -- they load up on Young Guns and those are the forces overhypeing the crappy YGs that I have no time for.
As a collector I want the rarer cards -- like the Cup or Premier.. because you could fit all the people that have any one card in one section of any NHL arena.
You can fill at least 10-15 full NHL arenas with all the people that would have any one YG rookie card and still have more cards left over.
YGs to me -- not worth my time.
Collecting is about getting the cards that few other people have -- not the ones that everyone has or the ones they can keep printing more of as they get more orders for them.
Just speaking from a perspective of a person who likes to have things that few others have.
Go for the Cup. no doubt
