Season starts pretty soon. I am very excited for hockey but I am not excited about this team.
Bruins made almost zero changes. This was a team that would have been crushed by TB had TB not been crushed by Columbus.
Tukkaa still isn't the guy that will get it done.
Chara is a year older.
Bergeron enters the year hurt.
I am very underwhelmed at the off season that this team put out there. They retained McAvoy but they didn't make any notable acquisitions. None.
My prediction is 98 points, a playoff birth and a second round exit with TB showing them the door.

Minus Tuukka they would not have been in game 7 of the finals. Unfortunately the entire team decided to take game 7 off.

I will definitely give you that. He stole at least one game in the Leafs series. I think it was game 6 in Canada IIRC. Game 7 he was good too.
However, there are more instances of him pooping his pants than there are instances where he stole a game.

Can’t believe it’s hockey season already. It just ended.
This team is old and slow. Probably the last hurrah for a number of years.

Very true. There is zero young blood on this team.
Not sure about the minors.
I think Tass has a good grasp on the kids in Providence. Hopefully he will weigh in.

Pretty sure the Donato trade will bite them in the ass also. The forward group has some high end skill and tenacity but is light on depth, and needs some youngsters to step up and fill it out. Journeyman Brendan Gaunce is still young and a solid 4th liner. Sweeney needs to somehow swing a deal. Dumping Backes would be a start, but darn difficult if not impossible. Maybe straight up to Vancouver for Louis Eriksson? :)
I believe that Rask and Halak will do a very solid job in the net.
IMO the D is still way better than average with Krug, McAvoy, Carlo and that old Slovakian ogre.
The dreaded Canadiens might just overtake the B's if they don't watch out.

I hate replay in instances like this. Replay should be used in all sports in instances of clear and obvious missed calls. Not when there is a fraction of an inch and you need to zoom in 100X to see a discrepancy.

In the NHL they can go back and review for as long as the puck stays in the zone, right? Even if they have puck control for 5 minutes in the zone before a goal.

Given the salary cap issues they had though could they have traded him for draft picks and signed someone at a cheaper rate? I feel like there would have been someone out there to be a solid goalie and the financial resources could have been used to strengthen the rest of the roster for a net gain.

You know, if they moved tuukka, they would be blowing the rest of the core up. So it isn't just a "replace tuukk with player x" type of thing. Unfortunately, his contract really signals the end of what the bruins have going on right now.

What a steal Coyle has been for the B's, arguably the 2nd best player on the ice in last nights must win over Toronto, further proving his strong showing in last years playoffs was not a fluke.
For B's fans that felt trading Donato was a mistake, he's been a healthy scratch in 3 games for the Wild so far this season (avg. only 8:00 min. per game / 1G-2A - 3pts on the season), kid was too soft to wear the spoked B.
Nice job by Sweeney & Neely on this deal. :)!
Keep an eye on Bjork, kid's got wheels and a great set of hands as he becomes more comfortable with his linemates, expect his production to increase.
Conference leaders face off for the 1st time this season tonight.

Nice to see a local guy do well, Grzelcyk is such a good kid that is really starting to get much deserved recognition, his injury in last years Stanley Cup final was more of an impact on the team then most realized.
Also pretty excited for Clifton scoring in front of family and friends in NJ.
Hopefully Krug returns sooner than later in the interim it looks like the youngsters have stepped right up! :)!
Going to keep pumping up Coyle & Bjork line, even though only an assist last night (Coyle), they really are moving the puck well, expect Coyle to have another gear Sat. night vs. Minnesota.

The Bruins are so much better than this Wild team, yet it took a miracle finish to put them away, they need to start playing 60 min. games not just 5 min.

It's night's like last night that makes me concerned, the Wild is a team that the B's should have no problem with, yet they had to stand on their head for the last 2 min.
What is encouraging is that this team can turn it up when needed, that being said I'm pretty sure Cassidy is going to have this team humping in practice, they need to play a 60 min. game not 5 or 10 min. spurts.
Next up Montreal, they need a statement game and beating the Canadians soundly would be just what they need at this point of the season.

It might cost the job of Julien soon.
It should the guy is horrible handling young players, they have a single bad shift and they sit at the end of the bench.
He obviously won a Cup here but honestly management gave him plenty to work with over his 10 seasons here. His inability to mesh young players with veterans was his demise in Boston.
Montreal fans are losing their #@#@#@#@ today, that was one of if not the worst performance of a Canadiens club vs. the Bruins in Montreal that I've EVER seen.
As I've said before Coyle has been a huge addition to this team, one of the best players over the last 5-6 games, along with Bjork they have been impact players. :)!

Bruins are 6-1-3 over the last 10 games, and have not played a full 60 min. game in that stretch, it's eventually going to catch up with them.
Another flat 1st period today vs. the Rangers, need to get off to a better start then what we have been seeing.
Rangers controlling every aspect of this game, B's taking foolish penalties and are totally out of synch!
Starting to get concerned with the status of Bergeron who has now missed the last 3 games and it appears it's going to be awhile before he does return, these 'lower body injuries' are so unpredictable.
How about that!! :flex:

According to NHL Public Relations, Pastrnak became just the fourth player in NHL history to record 12-plus goals in back-to-back months, joining Wayne Gretzky (1981-82, 1983-84), Mike Bossy (1984-85) and Mario Lemieux (1992-93).

Pastrnak with yet another game winner!!
That was not only a 'clutch' goal but an absolute perfect shot, this guy is having a season for the ages. :)!
The Bruins continue to be the only team in the NHL without a regulation loss at home, however they cannot continue to just play a 20 min. game.
They are fortunate to be able to turn it up when needed, but this is going to catch up with them the slow inconsistent starts must stop!

The bolded part is pretty correct. Still like to watch good hockey. This was not good hockey.
The harsh reality following this drubbing to Colorado is that this team has been winning despite playing mediocre hockey.
Team needs to be competitive against the upper echelon of the league and last night really exploited their deficiencies.
The B’s could not establish their game in the neutral zone and the Avalanche were clearly the better team. Bruins struggle against teams with combined speed and that does not bode well with the Caps and Lightning on the upcoming schedule.
Ottawa always plays tough in their building, Washington is going to be the 1st real test of this season to see just how well this team bounces back vs. one of the leagues elite.

This is the worst stretch of games this team has played in the last 4-5 seasons.
Cassidy has to make changes as to how they approach OT, I’ve never seen a team more inept in the additional 5 min. than this group, with all their talent there is no excuse to be 0-5 in SO!!
The one positive I can take from this whole situation is that it’s still only Dec., every club will have a rough stretch, hopefully this is theirs.
Far to many missed opportunities around the net, these guys have to start burying these chances, really liked that 4th line last night would like to see Cassidy keep that group together.

Bruins are soft. See mcavoy get wrecked and nobody takes up for him. Soft
You have to take into account the players that were on the ice during that situation.
The Bruins are far from being 'soft', this is one of the tightest groups we have had in awhile, and there have been plenty of situations this season where lesser players have come to the defense of their teammates. Fighting in general overall is down in the NHL.
I honestly did not have a problem with the B's response, your not going to risk suspension having a player leave the bench and quite honestly Wilson was done for the night so who do you retaliate at?
You don't want to see your top goal scorer throwing hands, but I was impressed with how Pastrnak responded to yet another dirty hit from Wilson. I was amazed that the refs did absolutely nothing to Wilson following that whole fiasco!
Early word is that McAvoy is OK, not so sure the same can be said about Krug his shoulder was already banged up so I would expect the B's to be without him for a bit.
Tom Wilson is a PUSSY!

Thankfully no shootouts in the playoffs. I wonder if they practice breakaways.
This is their only saving grace, how in the name of God can a team be so inept in OT/ SO is beyond me.
I've watched them pick corners in practice at Warrior Arena (yes they practice penalty shots), and it defies all logic that they cannot produce in a game situation.
Bottom line Cassidy needs to switch players up in these situations, obviously the guys they currently use are not producing.
What Marchand did last night is just UNACCEPTABLE!!
Regardless of the current standings, I'm starting to see some bad habits with this club. Not overly impressed with the defense or goaltending for that matter.

Halak for the win against the Pens, seen this one too many times over the years, he just steps it up against them Those 2 saves against ZAR were incredible.
I've been critical of this teams play for the last month or so, they need to put together a streak of 60 min. efforts before I can honestly consider them a playoff threat.
Last night was the kind of effort Cassidy has been preaching for this team for quite sometime, they stepped up the physical aspect of their game and that correlated into a 'team' win.
Bruins have been dependent on their primary line of Bergeron, Pastrnak & Marchand, and need to get additional support from the bottom of the lineup similar to last night.
I agree Halak had a solid effort, but far to often he has let in a back breaking soft goal those need to be prevented.
Bruins have been surprisingly successful vs. the Penguins for the last few seasons, always an exciting game and a treat to see Crosby & Malkin.
Hopefully last night is the start of some consistent play, Coyle, Kuraly, Lindholm & Kuhlman need to contribute on a nightly basis if this team wants to go deep into the playoffs.
Bruins close the book on the 1st half of the season with a solid effort vs. Vegas.
This was an important game to win especially following the collapse on Sun. in Pittsburgh.
Interesting to see that both the Pens & Bruins are 2&3 respectively in man games lost to injury so far this season, B's need to remain healthy in the 2nd half of this season in order to maintain some form of consistency.
Nice to see Krejci return and reward the team with the game winner, Lauzon is going to be an impact player down the stretch, injuries on the backline are inevitable and this kid can step right in and give this roster some much needed physicality.
It's obvious that word is out on Halak (shoot high glove side), he has been prone to the soft goal and last night was a prime example on BOTH Vegas goals.
Let's hope this team can get healthy for the 2nd half of the season, and start to play complete 60 min. games!

Pastrnak is my favorite player as well. He doesn't seem to be getting a lot of hype in Boston.
If there was ever a time for Don Sweeney to step up to the plate it's now, Bruins and Avs are currently front runners for Chris Kreider.
I was excited last season when the B's 'fleeced' the Wild and dumped Donato for Coyle, tremendous move that paid immediate dividends. :)!
Here's to hoping that history repeats itself and they acquire Kreider, this would be an absolute MONSTER pick up for the stretch run and playoffs!
Imagine adding Kreider to an already potent PP, I'm trying not to get too excited but it's difficult, Kreider is the type of player that you could easily plug into the B's system, so lets get this deal done Donny boy.

All fine and dandy wanting Kreider but what would you realistically give up to get him? He will not come cheap and he will be expecting a serious raise- expect at least Kevin Hayes money (thanks Fletcher- brilliant of you to run up the Cap comps for middling players).
Backes and his $6shmill for next year is now gone so at least there is some cap relief if Sweeney wants to bring another Chowd home.
I don't think Donny Boy has the syrup to deal away another 1st rounder.

I'm willing to see them dip into their talent pool along with packaging an existing player like Heinen or Lindholm. I wanted to add that I would NOT want to see Studnicka involved, this is one player I want to see develop in the system.
The Bruins have a tight window for Stanley Cup potential after this season, Krug & Chara are UFA after this year, Bergeron and Krejci will be UFA over the next few seasons respectively so there is no time like the present!
I do like the acquisition of Kase, he's a good corner man with size a prototypical Boston Bruin :)!
This pretty much sums up the Kreider situation for the Bruins , I think it's safe to say the asking price was just to high.
Trading for Kase could be the Bruins' only move in advance of the deadline Monday. Sweeney said the Bruins are looking only to add to the roster, not take anything off it to make another trade.
"I don't know what will be or can be done," Sweeney said. "We'll continue to make calls and look at different opportunities. … For us, we've addressed what we think [we] need and it also doesn't take away from any of the players we have."
That could mean the Bruins are out of the running to try to acquire left wing Chris Kreider from the New York Rangers.
