Just looked it up because thought about pre-ordering a case. Seen it's $2900 and boxes are $249? Think that is to much for this class and last year it was $145 a box.

I would have to agree that $249 a box is a bit out of whack if true.

I was looking to order a case also, but not at that price point. Hopefully it will come down great deal. Wishful thinking lol.

Its insane, you're pretty much paying $250 for a shot at the on card auto being one of the guys. Singles make sense the majority of the time, but this is a no brainer singles product.

This is exactly what will happen to basketball products next year. Prices are high based on prior year, class doesn't live up to price levels, people still buy initially til they realize how overpriced it is, price comes back down. At $250 a box, i would expect prices on these to come down before release. Can't imagine there will be too many pre-orders at that price.

List price on these seem to be up from last year so I can see why they are higher.

I wish everyone would understand that it's not Panini pricing these, but Blowout and distributors trying to get the largest profit margins...

Panini has either ruined Contenders in 1 of 2 reasons.

Way 1: They kept players who will never play a snap on the checklist and decided to make it $100 more for no reason other than they want to take advantage of the hold they have on the card market even more than they already are (making products more and more expensive every year)

Way 2: They decided to raise the price point but take out all of the players that are unknown now, but could turn out to be a breakout, overlooked player and kept it to the same maybe 100 players that get cards in every product. This would completely ruin Contenders because many collectors like it for that reason

Either way, Panini messes this up pretty bad if the price doesn’t come down

I think man will buy the murray for under 200 and others he wants. Why spend 250 for trying to hit them? Only gain would be if you hit a cracked ice or a sick vet or one of the silver or gold cards. I would be in at 125 a box but 250 panini can shove it up their bum bum lol

Panini increased the SRP of prizm and contenders this year by a lot. 120 to 150 on prizm. 140 to 175 on contenders.

I've been going crazy on Championship Ticket RCs, I think I got 50 last year, all the good players obviously. This year I'm going to get Championship Ticket RCs again but really going to try to limit who I get.

Thinking

Kyler Murray
Daniel Jones
Josh Jacobs
Nick Bosa
TJ Hockenson
Josh Allen
Devin Bush
Marquise Brown
Terry McLaurin
AJ Brown
Justice Hill

You still don’t know how much Blowout is getting these for. I bet they get them for about $125 and are trying to get double.

Man, I hope they wouldn't do that, but it is a business after all. I was looking forward to buying this, but I just can't pay what they want for it right now.

Spot on. Panini (and topps, etc) are hardly increasing prices year over year, if at all.

The distributors are now acting like speculators, as opposed to true distributors. I am not saying that’s wrong, by the way.

There’s so much nonsense going on with presale pricing being silly, breakers then advertise that “we are breaking this at (or below) cost” because they are referencing blowouts bloated case pricing - not the initial allocations they got fit $500-1000+ less than blowout pricing.

So here we are, in 2019, and I can’t find a product to just by the case. Distributors would rather pander to breakers.

Yep. It’s incredible to see how much some of these breakers make. Platinum profits $1.5 million+ a year, if not more. The prices they charge for breaks are flat out embarrassing. Only thing more embarrassing are the sheep buying the spots.

And hey, good for them. They’ve built a loyal (if not stupid) following, abd that’s not easy. But they’ll tell you they don’t make much. Lmao.

Been buying 3-4 cases of Contenders a year since '05 and this will be the year I sit out due to this unjustified price increase (meaning no add'l auto's or anything that I have seen). Sad as I wanted it to be a tradition with my kids but not trying to take huge losses doing it. Bummed.

A friend that is a small time breaker got boxes of Prizm for $110 from distributor.
He was allocated 6 boxes...

That's still $600 profit. Allocations are worse because everyone is a breaker. I got in it almost 5 years ago and gets worse each year trying to get product.

Ahhh the days of $130 Contenders is over. Sickening how overpriced stuff is throughout the 3 main sports. We need Upper Deck and Leaf to get licenses back to spread around some competition.

Well 2019 Panini Contenders Draft Picks Football is $110 and has 6 autographs. It's technically "Contenders".

It's "THE" rookie card. The great news is you don't have to buy it at all because there are so many choices. You can go a bit cheaper if you like rookies and do Donurss Optic or Prizm or even Select at $200 or less per box. All of those have more long term holding power than say Phoenix, Illusions or other lower-end products.

Yes but why? Because of the popularity of the 2000 Brady? I had the same reaction as taylor5877 when I got back in as to why people like Contenders so much.

The Brady card has a lot to do with it. So does the consistency of the same name for 21 years. My question is why does it matter? Collect what you want, how you want. If you want to make a profit then figure out what sells and how you want to do it. Otherwise you get to decide what you like.

Upper Deck charges $100+ for boxes with no autos..

As an outsider coming back into the hobby, I don't understand the popularity of this product at all.Its the OG rookie auto, plain and simple.

Still doesnt justify the gouging right out of the gate.
One of the primary reasons i stopped breaking football wax entirely.
That, and over the last 5-8 years, its become harder and harder to pull 1st round pick autos..the boxes are littered with 4th and 5th rounders that sign 5000 cards vs the 1st rounders who might sign 700. (Arbitrary numbers to make the point)

I wish they went back to the days of random serial numbered rookies. They did it ror a couple of years starting in 01, or 02 and i think they stopped in 06?
Someone correct me if im off..
