I don’t believe there are any chase cards that would drive up the price of unopened that much, but they’re a fun rip I just like seeing all the variations and it’s almost pure rookies so you get tons of decent hits

Honesty prob not worth holding. One of my favorite sets but I'm not sure value would go up on sealed wax. It's great to rip though and you have a chance at many nice Luka, Trae, and SGA cards plus the plethora of other rookies.

Yeah I might watch for re-wraps on these. I grabbed a couple hangers at Walmart about a month ago, and ended up leaving 3 that looked off. Instead of having the normal packaging that is fully sealed, it was just wrapped around the edge of the box (assuming it was a return).

Chronicles have some really pretty cards at a very affordable price. I'm sure collectors are going to be scooping up more and more of these. Also noticed the Doncic playoff RC has a giant printer defect on the bottom. Anyone see one without this smudge?

Broke 2 Blasters today from Target

Got 1 Luka and 4 Traes, Great rip as there are so many RCS. No Autos

With Luka, Trae, Shae beinggood hits, plus the Bagleys, Ayton Jackson's, it makes it an affordable rip with even a shot at decent to good rcs to get graded.

As someone who's ripped a whole lot of retail chronicles I'd stay away from the blasters. It seems like you only get 2 of the premium cards (Chrome Chronicles, Obsidian, Phoenix, Crusade) per box, plus the lowest numbered card you can hit of these are the pinks #/75.

The hangers are the best bet if you want a chance at RPAs, autos, and low numbered cards (greens #/25). You also still get 2 of the premium cards per hanger box.

I went to town on the $5 value packs because I kept hitting bronze #/5 hits (Trae, Carter Jr, Ayton, Knox, and Miles Brides x2). Way better value on the numbered hits from the value packs but obviously big hit or miss. You also only get 1 premium card from the value packs.

I wish instead of the premium parallels only being numbered (pink /75, green /25, bronze /5) they would have also randomly put holo/refractor versions of Phoenix, Crusade, and Chrome Chronicles. All of those cards POP as refractors and I think would make the cards more desirable altogether. They did this with baseball chronicles this year so hopefully they do it next year! For 18-19, though, the only refractor versions of those cards are all numbered.

Gala's are the top of Chronicles and look amazing in person but are very tough to pull. Phoenix and Obsidian are very nice as well.

I'm guessing you don't like the junk smudged Playoff Doncic card from the pics above but it has a classic look. I grabbed a bunch of them in a lot for dirt cheap and gave a few of them away already and never had a complaint. Doncic RC's for dirt cheap, how can you go wrong?

I love the whole set. Even the base Panini and other cards. Love the variety.

I'm working on the base set, including all the Gala and Titanium, etc. I obviously love it (or I wouldn't have undertaken this project), but I really think they could make improvements to really make it elite.

One thought: make the Chrome Chronicles, Crusade, and Phoenix have Prizm/Holo parallels or just make them that as part of the base. Phoenix base in football was already a holo, so why'd they switch it for this set? All the previous Crusade releases were holos. I think it would boost the value of those cards as time goes on.

The biggest issue I think is the parallel structure. The retail parallels just kinda seem thrown in there, and I think they could have gotten more creative with all the parallels.

In last year's set, the Momentum cards had a die-cut parallel... I think if they die-cut the Marquee for one of the parallels that would have been a cool wrinkle since the curved design at the top would be a natural die-cut. Also, there isn't much differentiation types of Titanium (the accent color on the edges is the only thing that's different).

Obviously it was a great step up from last year, but I think they could make a few more tweaks to really make it a lot better.

Agreed! I mentioned this earlier in the thread too. 2019 baseball chronicles had base and silver/holo versions of Phoenix and others so I think they'll do that this year with basketball.

The parallels of chrome cards have been gaining in value over the last couple weeks. Makes sense, people getting priced out of Select and Optic (and obviously Prizm) might be looking for more affordable shiny chrome cards and these are all numbered to boot.

Can confirm this stuff is great and I bought just because and happened to see this thread now. I hit a /75 Trae pink chrome lookin variant of the “newspaper cover” card. Multiple others of him, and 3 Lukas. 2 of the black Luminance Lukas and the in a threads (lol) I hit some Luka variant with sparkles and his name in gold at the bottom which is different from the standard ones. Sorry I’ll post pics later and have no clue which this is. Has his black jersey on the front in the background with him doing a layup. The Luminance from Chronicles I must say i like a lot, and that Trae /75 hit is great. If there were more I would buy them and intend to now anytime I see because of this thread and my own experience today. Better than the literal 8 box’s of prizm I have bought in last 2 months and hit ONE base Luka and one sensations lol. Turrrrrrible

That happened to me with a Topps Archives BB pack. The bottom was cut and resealed. Cards were replaced with 90’s junk. I didn’t bother returning it, just more careful next time.

I’ve also seen packs searched by just sliding the cards up.

Think about it—Prizm hits will be rare on the big RC. Chronicles has the big RC, Luka, even the most available going for around 10 bucks or so. Look at closed auctions and see which one you can make your money back on. Hit the right Luka and that $400 budget might double. Chose wisely.

Many who want Luka RC cars will get prices out of Prizm, Optic, select, so,Chronicles has lots of potential value, especially anything from the set that is Chrome, shines or is numbered. There will be good value even in the base cards. By the all star break Luka could really be on fire.

That's true, there is definitely a cascading effect. Started early with Prizm, then Optic, then Select is going up (especially with courtside).

I don't think Chronicles will get to the level of the sets above, but will definitely have some nice value in the long run. The numbered stuff here is NICE.

Hangers are the better buy for the money. However, just getting tons of Luka and Trae doesn’t instantly equal tons of dollars, but these sure are fun to rip. A lot of the base cards don’t sell for more than a couple bucks apiece, even for the top guys, but you still have a good shot at getting some nice looking parallels and serial numbered cards that will go for much more.

I dont get where blowout is going with the price on these. They are 3x retail on fat packs bu only 1.5x retail on blasters. They should have stuck with the 100 per box.

I picked up one of those fat pack boxes too, wasn't sure how great a deal it was because I never saw Chronicles outside of hobby boxes and blasters. Plus they had Optic fat boxes for $200 and couldn't justify spending as much on Chronicles as Optic (even if it was 2:1). With all the Prizm on it's way to my house, I think it'll be a while until I open these but should be fun after the Prizm dust settles

Advice time - I usually hold sealed wax, so that is my preference. Found a beat up Chronicles Hanger tonight with ripped plastic on the back, but picked it up figuring just in case it might have been just an accident and no foul play.

With the box beat up and plastic on the outside with a slit in it, I decided to open the box to see if it was filled with 1993 topps. Instead, open it up to find a Doncic card staring back at me in the back of the pack.

So - as someone who normally holds, will I be able to hold this and hope value increases even though it's not in the hanger box itself anymore (Still in the sealed cello) or is it best to just open at that point?

It is the Panini version....not the best of his rookie card. It is a football release that they did in basketball. I would open it. More times than not there is another Luka somewhere in the pack, but no guarantee

Found three blasters at Target. Luka Studio and Playoff, four Trae, bunch of SGA, and some Pink JJJs.

When your RC stack is double your vet stack, it’s a no brainer.

Phoenix for me has the best eye appeal when it comes to the color variations. Would love to add a bronze!


Agreed, the Phoenix is what originally drew me to Chronicles. Was able to grab a blue /99 at a very good price early November. They've exploded in value since then and they're out of my price range now. Currently hunting for Luka Elites and Elite Black Boxes.

I've gotten extremely lucky with Chronicles and Luka/Trae collation, really can only remember a few times I didn't get them out of the several hundreds worth of product I've opened from different sellers, plenty of Green/Pink parallels too.

I know someone out there is pulling all the Chimezie Metus and Svis for us :D

Figured I'd add this bit of info in as well as another low end option for luka... walmart.com is clearancing out 18/19 donurss blasters at 16 each. Sold out now but will probably be in and out of stock for a bit.. luka base is selling for around that price. Always a good indicator of a product rise when the top base card sells for the cost of the product...plus only a 200 base card set, 50 of which are rated rookies - 88 cards per blaster. Really no harm in ripping or stashing. And all retail products all have solid looking exclusive parallels..

One to keep an eye on... Even grabbed some retail boxes off a 3rd party seller on Amazon of all places...usually the worst place for anything card related - these were about 50 each after amazon card discount... Not earth shattering but definitely another low end chance for 18/19 rookies. Not too many good options left at around retail price.

The Phoenix chrome out of this product is really nice and high quality. It's already at about $15 raw and I can see it continue to rise. Gem mint copies are already over $80 for the base version and much more for the color parallels. It's a great alternative to his higher priced chrome cards

What do people like better - Luka crusade or Luka phoenix? I like the phoenix card more especially in parallel/refractor form since it has more refractor color but it seems like the crusade sells for just a bit more.

I’ve had better luck pulling the Obsidians out of hangers compared to blasters. I opened like 6 or 7 hangers over the past few weeks and got a Kevin Knox and Bagley base Obsidians, and a Wendell Carter Jr. green Obsidian #’d /25.

Seems a lot more serial numbered pink have come out of blasters vs hangers which hit less frequently and are higher numbered.
