Well, here it comes again. Another FOTL dutch auction style. This one will be interesting to watch.


This year's Panini Premium Edition FOTL Contenders NFL Trading Cards will be featured in a Dutch Auction Format.

When It Starts:
December 19th, 2019 10 AM CST
How It Works:
Set Up an account at www.paniniamerica.net (login is required).
Opening Price Starts at $600. :eek:
Price Drops every 2 minutes until product sells out.
Buy at any time.
Customers will pay the price that is active when they click the purchase button.

1st Off The Line is a program only available through the Panini America online store or Panini Direct App. 1st Off The Line features all of the original content of the national product release – but features exclusive content only found in the limited quantities available for those products that are part of the 1st Off The Line program.

The iconic Rookie Ticket is back again and features the deepest rookie checklist of the year, these parallel to Playoff Ticket (max #’d /99), Rookie Ticket Stub (max #’d/99), Championship Ticket (max #’d /49), Cracked Ice Ticket (#’d /23), and Super Bowl Ticket (#’d 1/1).
Chase Rookie Ticket RPS Red Zone variations which feature unique design elements and unique photography from the standard Rookie Tickets.
Look for inserts: Rookie of the Year Contenders, MVP Contenders, Legendary Contenders, Winning Ticket, and Round Numbers.

Yeah plus it has individual packs and 5 autos per box, so should do way better than Optic FOTL just for that reason. Unfortunately not likely to drop below $200 unless they make a ton, which they might.

People will see what Blowout and other sites are selling hobby for and there is no chance this drops below $200. Preorder on regular hobby is $215-$235. It happened today with the basketball Contenders FOTL. Everyone saw what hobby presale price was and they weren't going to let it go down anymore. Regardless of what the product is worth.

The whole concept of "Dutch Auctions" for Hobby Wax is so dumb. And gullible and naïve people are dumb or at the very least, ignorant if they believe for a second that this will sell out at whatever price Panini deems it to "ends at" at whatever Panini "says" it sells out at. Ok.

Panini's not dumb. It's a clever ploy to artificially price their products to make it seem like they are doing collectors a favor, but no way in hell Panini are going to let the price fall under what they are comfortable selling it for without taking a substantial loss.

It seems to me like buy-and-hold works for wax right now much more than for singles. With singles, you need that 1 player to absolutely explode. You buy a case of wax and hold it and all it takes is 1 player in that class to explode.

Which of ALL products that are produced. Contenders is the ONLY one where the base are completely worthless. It is either Auto or bust. This would be the only box I could see them going premium content with 6 auto's and I personally would be OK with. There are no true RC's outside of auto's, and parallels are few and far between. Playoff /99?

Yeah they should have flopped the release styles. Besides cracked ice base, there isn’t much to Contenders besides autos.

Not really a true box of contenders with only 6 packs. Hobby box has 18 packs.

I will try to get one FOTL at Floor. If not I will stick with Hobby. My thing is with the Hobby you chance at Cracked ice on card auto is better due to the FOTL making this an exclusive for the on card red. These aren't sought after like the cracked ice autos are.

right. so most people don't get it at 290. If you get it at $310, after tax it is $330. Selling a box on ebay at $500, after fees it is like $420 net. Plus the risk of refund. So not great, but not bad. Also, some people sold for $425 a box on ebay after release.

Still money to be made but the prices are more in line of around $450 from what I see on eBay. But football is going to be tough to make really good profit this year IMHO.

I have always loved busting NFL product, this is the first year in a while I have little to no interest.

In looking at the format of this one. With 5 autos and only six packs I am actually OK with the "premium" format here. Contenders is ONLY about the auto's anyway

You and me both. It used to be a nice way to get boxes at MSRP. Now it is a way to get less cards and less chances at meaningful hits at hobby pricing or above, honestly.

Kind of ruined the fun. Knowing that everything is Dutch style for the main products, I am just going to hold out hope that Select basketball is the same old mess and I can get lucky.

I think these will do well. Keeps all 5 autographs that normal boxes do, replaces one of them with an FOTL exclusive, and then scraps all the worthless base cards. People chase Contenders for the autos, unlike Prizm where a lot of the chase is the non-auto rookies.

We can all presume that National Treasures will be Dutch like this, correct? Seeing that the guarantee will be a patch auto numbered to 20 or less, wouldn't it make sense, especially with basketball, to buy everything as soon as it comes out in order to corner the market?

I would never do it, but I feel like that would be the easiest way to make a profit off the Dutch auction format now. People paying $450 per box of Contenders basketball on the secondary market when they could have easily paid a good amount less on the website means that people would want the most sought after product of the year, right?

Should drop lower than Contenders basketball's final price. Optic FOTL, while not as strong as the Contenders offering, took days to sell out. The amount of people gunning for basketball is much higher than football these days. Will be interesting to see how this plays out over the next couple hours.

This would've been the perfect product to do a "premium" version and just sell at $200 /box. Sales would probably end up around the same, and nobody cares about the base and parallels in Contenders. Just 5 autos and a couple parallels would've been fine (although I do enjoy that fresh Contenders base smell :D).

They are, its the Mahomes effect. People saw how high this stuff could go if a player is lights out. Look at Bakers last year, prices were crazy then they traded for ODB and they were to the moon! Im afraid to even look at Lamar Jackson prices now, I had several base and variation 9.5s I sold about 2 weeks before the explosion in prices. Now this year base rc autos seem to be about double the normal rate for the top QBs for contenders.

Just buy the Kyler outright at ~$1k. I picked up another one last week below $1k. They are not selling for a huge premium over the base right now, but for my money it’s 100x better looking card. With the Cardinals having red as their primary color it really makes the card one of the best looking Kyler’s I’ve seen. I don’t have a lot of good things to say about Panini but I feel like they nailed the Red Zone cards this year. Now if only I could find a Drew Lock for cheaper than Kyler. I just flat out refuse to pay more for Lock out of principle.

Otherwise look forward to spending $350 on Andy Isabella and Gary Jennings Jr auto’s.

That’s a beauty. Another good thing I’ve noticed about Red Zone is they seem to come out of the box in really good shape for a dark colored card. Mine are going to PSA soon.
