Nostalgia share late 90s collection, SPx Finite, UD Encore, Manning, Moss + Advice

Hey guys,

Just this September I got roped back in to cards (mostly basketball now though) after being crazy into them starting with the 1998 draft class because Randy Moss was my favorite player ever. I was 10 then and lost interest after 3 years once I started chasing tail vs cards lol. Of course this was funded by my parents and always remember I got packs for doing chores like vacuuming, dusting, etc haha

Anyway, I’m just now going through everything I have (already well aware most is crap and even the best stuff is not as valuable as it was then I’ve known for years). Dammit why did I have to give up right when Brady stuff was coming out? I collected contenders tickets like crazy...So far I have only found 4 Press Pass Brady’s and 1 Pacific for RCs. But just wanted to share some of this stuff I’m going through as it’s bringing back a lot of fun memories from my childhood. Would love to see anything you guys want to add from around this time, especially if 1998, 1999, 2000 time frame for my selfish reasons, but share anything somewhat related!

I do have one question as well and it is what should I do with the stuff that at least has decent value and is in good shape I’m okay with selling? Is it absolutely worth sending in for grading and then selling, or just sell raw? I have never done a submission in my life, only have been advised by my LCS owner’s/friends what to look for myself so I have some idea. You can see some below, but I have 50+ Manning rookies, 50+ Moss, Woodson, Fred Taylor, etc (All you big Tim Couch, Ricky Williams, Akili Smith, Brock Huard fans I got you lol)..

Long story short, basically is it worth the hassle, cost, time to send some of this stuff in, or the bump for nice grades isn’t going to be incredibly worthwhile? It has been a blast going through this I must say. Just wish I sold this stuff back then, although it’s taught me a good lesson for today. Doesn’t matter if you’re Peyton Manning, Daniel Jones can be more expensive haha

PS: Man some beautiful cards from this era though. My favorites to collect were Topps Gold Label (still so beautiful), UD Encore, SPx, Ex2001, Sheer Brilliants from Fleer, Bowmans Best Chrome gold refractors, Metal Universe (linchpins below). What was your favorite to collect from this time? I can’t get over how beautiful these SPx numbered rookies are like the Mannings and Moss’s below. So tough to have in good condition and rare to have no chipping. But wow I would take these over anything today personally. Pieces of art

Agree man, sound like that old guy but they don’t make cards like they used to. Some of these really are just beautiful. I loved how much competition there was because it upped everyone’s game. And thanks! Definitely lucked out having my dad be as interested in these as me, so he lived through me with them and made it easier to fund buying wax haha. Everything you see here I pulled myself minus probably half the Moss’s including the auto which were eBay. Have tonsss more of this too and just have to figure out what to do with it as I know most are a few bucks at best kinda cards

Anyone have an opinion about where some of the nicer stuff from this era is going prove wise decades from now? Impossible obviously but do you think the more time goes on the more value it will lose, or do you think some Peyton Manning stuff for example in 20 years could have a nice rebound? Also hoping to hear an opinion of grading for the decent stuff and if it’s worth it value wise if I will sell for sure, or probably not too much of a difference unless a 10 kinda thing? Thanks for any input on either

Honestly i don’t think buying a PP from me would be a better deal than you could probably find on eBay. One of them is gold (not a huge deal) that I’m going to send in, and the other regular ones are intrinsically worth more to me than would be a great price to you kinda thing. Like selling one for $40 for example just isn’t worth it to me is what I mean. Hope you understand, just trying to help by saying I think you save money with someone else in that case :)

Throw out an offer on the Moss either here or PM. Tough to find any comps at all so really don’t know this moment but will look into. I’ll also look for good Leaf stuff. Only thing pictured here is the shining stars and that isn’t high end what you’re looking for. I might have an SPx auto like the McNabb /1999 RC auto I have. Think him and Couch were the others I have so I’ll see. Def should have some numbered/cool stuff I would get you a great deal on for sure
