These just arrived yesterday and today. Not the signed stamp version but it will have to do for now. The other is an Esso gas sticker that I collected in 70-71.

Those are so sharp (and big $) I would be afraid to buy them without a group decision. What is the background story on the find?

How can you tell?

imperfect blue margins (overlaps with the black lining), you can see it in particular near the oilers logo.

I believe these were the first 15-20% in print

I have seen sellers state 1st print run as a listing highlight. I have never looked at the end results or compared the market but do people actually care and pay a premium?

I was gonna ask the same thing. It makes the card less of a grade you would think? But, maybe 1st print run is more desirable. How do graders consider this?

Bought my first box of 2020.

All my luck is now gone for 2020.

I bought them from a local friend. He has a total of 7 or 8 of them. He told me to send them to grading and if they didn't come back authentic he would make everything right.

Nice card!! I don't have any luck. At least you used yours at the beginning of the year instead of the end (and many boxes).

He has 8,7,6. These two are close to the 6's & 7's

Yeah they all look nice. The other's are graded...

It is more common to see Topps cards with sharp edges than OPC. I still have my OPC cards that I opened from packs in 1979. They don't have edges like that. However, they are out there, just hard to find.

The sharp ones, I assume, were cut after machine service. Some have said the Topps had better equipment and they shipped their old machinery to Canada.

I am glad your friend has your back because they would make me nervous. I hope it all works out. Be sure to update us.

OPC cards were cut with wires. Early into the process the wires got dulled and therefore the typical "rough-cuts" ensued....

So it would be more likely this is a first print run on the OPC?

I am recently back into the hobby and I have never researched this print run thing. It is something new to me, because I never cared. I have seen it recently discussed, which is why I asked earlier in the thread.

Most of what I read pointed to blue printers lines on the back as the identifier. Can you show a scan of the back?

They got sent to PSA on Saturday

This is what I am referring to, the light blue line through the middle of the card. People are saying it reflects the first print run. I don't know, personally it is not something that matters to me.

Also, if the lines indicate the first run, this card front doesnt have the blurred logo.

I picked up all of Mario Lemieux RC cards. OPC and TOPPS are both PSA 8 and his scoring leader in a PSA 9. Also got the bottom box cards from OPC and TOPPS as well. OPC was a PSA 3 and his TOPPS was a PSA 5. I know the word “trimming” is a trigger word these days in this hobby but since these are box cut cards I wish I knew someone who could trim them up a little better to see if I can increase the grade. Edges are a little sloppy with yellow and white so getting rid of the white might help with the grade. These are all for my PC and a future frame job.

I did this at Staples (big box office store) a couple of weeks ago. This is the first try from a Jello box. The had a trimmer in their self service area that looks like the photo

Might not be a bad idea, Id probably get some cheaper full bottom boxes to practice on. I’d hate to screw these up.

Sorry I should have asked to start on new thread, we are getting way off topic.

OP we hijacked your thread and its only the 6th. I will start a new thread to discuss OPC cuts. It is a good discussion/learning opportunity.

Don't ever worry about that. I don't come here often enough, plus it seems to be the norm on most forums anyways. :D

Some recent additions, but I have to ask, being fairly new to Blowout myself, despite my join date, should the older hockey cards be posted in the vintage section or is here OK as well?

Some recent PU's.
Bobby Orr in Yellow on back of Vezina Trophy card. What is the story on these? They carry a bit of a premium but just how rare are they?

Mario Lemieux RC. Not centered nor perfect but good enough for me.

I think this Rasmus Sandin kid is going to be a good one. He was chosen best defenseman at the World JR's tourney this past Christmas/New Year. 2 games played during a recent call up for the Leafs and he looked pretty good, imo.
