Any Game Used Experts on the forum?

I know that most on the board are card collectors (as am I), but I collect a lot of autographs and occasionally game used as well. Historically I used to frequent game used universe, but it appears that site is not active/not maintained.

I have my eyes on an NFL jersey which is authenticated under the NFLs PSA/DNA authentication program (apparently). I know PSA/DNA has been authenticating NFL Auctions for some time, however this jersey dates back to 2001. Is anyone aware of when the PSA/DNA authentication began with the NFL? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Is the jersey autographed as well? I've seen many jerseys claiming game used and referencing psa as the authenticator but psa only authenticated the autograph.

Could be a different case but worth checking.

It is not. The PSA authentication clearly says game used, but the cert looks different than those that come from current NFL auctions. Granted this is nearly 20 years ago, and likely, the certs they used back then are different than today. Online authentication indicates game use though.

I think I have a possible photomatch. It's certainly not an ironclad match, but a good indicator. That said photos of games back in 2001 are limited to none.

I wouldnt consider myself a big game used collector but have a couple dozen items.

Any distinguishing marks on the jersey you can maybe photo match it to photos? I know its an older jersey but you never know.

I used to work for MEARS, some time ago. That said I recall owning a 2001 Chris Chambers Miami Dolphins Jersey with NFL PSA DNA, so it’s definitely possible. A few things to consider:

1. You should be able to check the sticker number in the PSA DNA registry. Not for cards but other one.
2. The early stickers and stickers in general on a jersey are not very good at being tamper proof, because of the fabric in general.

I have a Dolphins game-worn jersey from 2001 that I bought through the NFL Auction site (back then), and it’s PSA/DNA certified.
As the previous poster said, look up the cert number on their site. (It’s possible someone took the original jersey and switched the sticker to a new one, but it’s unlikely.) Shoot me a photo of the cert and I’ll tell you if it’s the same as the one I have.

Usually if it's a NFL auctions game used jersey with PSA/DNA those come direct from the team.

Yep, for what it’s worth that’s the same style PSA cert I received with mine.

Looks like it comes with a LOO from MEARS. This is an auction LOO, so while not as thorough , it does mean the MEARS team did review the jersey and it was consistent with known exemplars.

Given the MEARS LOO and NFL Auction PSA DNA authentication I would feel pretty comfortable with the jersey.

Well I decided to go ahead and make the purchase. Thanks to everyone for the insights/input and thank much to Chris P for the deal and transparency.
