I saw earlier today that the Optic factory sets are once again available on the Fanatics site. This seems like a good buy at $80. What are your thoughts?

Not so sure. I saw they were available last week for like three straight days. I stopped looking so maybe they sold out then got more in stock, but I am leaning towards tons of it produced

Based on the main Optic thread on the boards, here are the two things board members seem to agree on.

1. A ton of these sets are being produced/sold, but probably still a good value at $80.

2. Even if you decide that you don't like/want the product anymore, or it's not the "super mojo Zion fire #invest hot" product that allows you to flip it for 3x profit, you can easily just claim buyer's remorse and stick it back to Fanatics to get your money back without feeling the least bit guilty... because apparently there's some gray rule that it's okay to have shady buying ethics with Fanatics, but it's a death sentence in any other situation.

This set was discussed in the Optic thread. Some people bought 10-20 sets and cancelled when they realized it wasn’t that limited. It kept going out of stock and then reloaded. Some folks were also able to use coupon codes or discounted Fanatics gift cards.

These have consistently shown up over the past couple weeks in Fanatics banner ads when I'm on Yahoo or ESPN or such sites, and each time I've clicked through, they've been in stock. So this is not new, and they are not at all limited. I'm in for a few with the 30% off coupon (ordered on day 1 before we knew about the production, and when the coupon was good for this item), and at that price I doubt I'll have regrets. But given how long they've been available and how much they seem to be advertised, I think an estimated print run of 10,000 might actually be low.

I'm in for five sets with the 30% coupon code. Worst case, I'm out $300 and that's if these hold $0 value. Everything else is going nuts this year and eventually these will sell out so worst case, you can sell them for what you bought them at.

I bought 3 Target Megas last year with the Shock Holo sets, and I figure these can't be worse than those. At least this is a full set, not just the rookies. Those '18-19 Target Megas took a long while to get off the ground, but they're above MSRP now.

The turn off for me was the "printed on exclusive card stock". I'm just assuming they are printed on very cheap, thin card stock. I'm sure there is some value in holding them long term hoping Zion carries all releases for years, but as a stand alone set I just don't see the value in it. Reminds me of the Optic megaboxes from last year with the flash rookie set in them.

FYI those are going for like $70+ now. Considering SRP was $50 but you could have easily picked up as many as you wanted for <$40, even those yielded a good return because of the guaranteed Luka

I understand what they are going for now. I have 3 sets. One in my PC, 2 in the cellophane sitting on my shelf. It took a long time for them to get over $50. The cost of having money held up for that time period and the cost of selling plus the value of time still doesn’t make a $50 buy to sell for $70 is not worth the time for most common collectors.

That was my point. As an investment the current box set may have some value long term to people who want to stash them but history tells us it won’t be a huge ROI and for those of us that are set collectors it’s not likely to be a very valuable set.
