Jasson Dominguez Prizm

So I just cracked a box of Baseball Prizm for the first time. Figured why now since it’s way more affordable than bowman right now. I’m pulled a Jasson Dominguez silver auto and was astonished to see what they are going for! Other prospects pale in comparison (including Rutschman) as far as price goes and I know it’s largely due to the fact that Dominguez doesn’t have a bowman release yet, but curious if you guys feel these prices will hold? Or will they take a steep dive once his bowman auto is released? I actually like these cards despite not having MLB licensing and wanna hang on to it.

Get rid of it. That’s a great hit, but once Bowman releases his 1st BC Au͏t͏o, your Prizm will tank.

I held Vlad Panini autos back in 2016 knowing Bowman Chrome was coming out and regretted it. I watched all of those Panini autos nosedive. Wound up selling them at a profit, but not at the level I would have before Chrome hit.

Depends on your goal. If your looking to make money, sell now.

If that isn't important keep it.

I think we will find, in time, that the first releases of some of these prospects will carry some value, even if unlicensed.

Appreciate the feedback. Like the fact that it’s the first, but I do remember holding on to a Puig leaf metal auto that once upon a time hit well over $300 - then absolutely cratered after the bowman release even while he was still a dynamo. Feels like a sell.

Go look at Panini Trouts from 2011/12 and compare them to comparable name brand Trouts from the same year and grade.

Yup. Just look at Wander Franco's EEE autos from last year as a prime, recent, example of a similarly hyped prospect without a licensed auto.

Base autos of his go for $175 -$200 out of Prizm. They look good and I am seeing him as a guy who everyone will want to have once he’s 18 and can play in the minors. Most people aren’t yet clued into him plus he’s a Yankee. So I’ll dissent here and say if the price drops it won’t be like Wander. Wander autos are everywhere and yet they are still overpriced. Plus there are collectors who will want his auto but can’t afford the insane prices of his Bowman - I would venture his autos will start at $1000 for a base, colors who knows.

When did Prizm Draft come out?? Honestly had no idea it even existed.

Like most others have already said, sell it. Even if the Bowman Autos are out of most peoples price range, you'll have to contend with non auto chrome and refractors with Yankee (airbrushed) logos.

Yes. Barring material changes in the market or Jasson, it’s $1k+. The perfect storm. I also think there is a reasonable chance they spread him out as well and he ends up some version of SP. I hope not to Bart levels but that’s how I would benchmark him given the prices this product is already getting.

I wouldn't say the predictions weren't correct just yet. Prices are all jacked up with the once in a lifetime circumstances we're going through. There is so much stuff going for 50-100% higher than can be reasonably justified. As things return to more normal, and more importantly as cards are simply available, a lot of stuff is going to crash back down to where it should be. Non-licensed Jassons seem to fall clearly into that category. Covid is doing a lot of screwy things to prices in the short-term, but it won't change the basic truths of what has value.
