PSA saying young packer rippers are causing massive backlog that can last for months as the rip and submit in hoping to get good grades to flip. During their Fiscal quarter 2020 they averaged 68K submissions a week with a peek of 85K a week near the end of 2019.
PSA also saying how they will be introducing NFC tech into products soon so can use a smartphone to bring up that item in the PSA database.
I know when I sent them a Super Bowl ticket for grading last summer I sent it it July or August and did not see it until December.

When it was taking 2 weeks to check in a package as their “standard” timeframe, they should have been working to address the issue. Now it’s at 4 weeks and climbing.
They ain’t doing #@#@#@#@ to increase their expenses, and therefore reduce wait times.... IMO

That's what happens when everyone realizes you can buy a paper cutter for a couple hundred bucks and turn almost anything into a PSA 10.

People need to also stop messing in there pants paying up for PSA 10 basic cards.

Eventually people will realize that there is very little money to be made in ripping/submitting/flipping modern cards when one considers all the time it takes to review and submit cards, the cost of submitting, and the fact that many submitted cards don't receive the PSA 10 needed to make the whole endeavor financially viable, and the fact that because PSA 10's are fairly common, they do not command much of a premium.

This is correct.

The kids sure are hip to flip a hit. They won't quit until their profits can't fit inside their wallets. Fool, good grades don't come from school. If you're cool, why dab when you can nab a mint slab and slap fat stacks of greenbacks like Pogs on top of other cards you intend to chargeback? (Nevermind that the guy's career just took a nosedive when he chose to drink and drive and now his wife is suddenly sporting black eyes and saying domestically he's violent. I'll just tell eBay that the card wasn't as you described it.) We all make mistakes and submit fakes on a whim. They might even be trimmed. But we're only humans and the milk cartons we buy provide the alibi that we don't mind the occasional skim. A little off the top. A little off the side. Twenty dollars later you're gem mint, perfect "10" certified.....
....as long as you don't catch 3124508onCOMC's eye.

How long does it take to get your PSA10 card back of a hot player before his prices tank? Never graded anything

My guess unless you pay up for the expensive fast service if you graded a hot SB player you are not getting it back until probably TC by then the market has cooled. Even if you pay for fast service you might have to wait what 1-2 months and even then the market will have probably cooled somewhat.

My experience is this statement is very wrong if you're ripping the right products (flagship, prizm, etc). I can only speak for myself but I've done well

And I'm sure that with such a huge backlog, they're having no trouble hiring and training qualified graders who can consistently grade cards accurately. :D

So hire more people PSA? That's millions of dollars they have waiting? It's not like they have huge standards anyways. Doesn't it take about 15 seconds for them to grade a card? This just baffles me.

I'm sure PWCC and 4 sharp corners would be more than happy to help grading.

Why wouldn't it be going strong? Now the secret's out that you can chop up almost any card and make it a PSA 10. It's free money.

According to the article, most of the influx is on newer cards. Collectore are busting cases and putting the key cards directly into card savers. I suspect these aren't being trimmed. Considering we are basically in another over production era and PSA is the standard way of selling on Ebay it makes sense they are backlogged.

Contrary to the title of the article, PSA simply attributes the backlog to "modern cards". The rest of the narrative is completely unsourced speculation by the author. My equally-valid unsourced speculation would be that only a marginal percent of these submissions are directly from the pack. Most are likely purchased on the secondary market raw and are either trimmed or submitted as-is.

Either way, I would love to get the real raw data on all of this. We need a grader to give us the inside scoop or the FBI to release details. It would be fascinating stuff.

Finally got some cards I sent in with a bulk submission going economy. Took about 15 months from when they went in to when they came back.

It's been crazy. I have two subs that are on their way back this week. They went out my door on 12/28/20 & 01/06/21.
Just a week or two short of 17 months.

I have a sub from Feb 21 that's in step 4 and a sub from April 22 that's also in step 4. Both the economy rate or whatever...

Yea definitely a lot of “junk” slabs from some accounts on myslabs. Like they submitted every card they pulled now there are slabs of random scrub. So much wasted plastic someone should call the EPA lol

This was why PSA stopped taking cards for a while every single card was being opened was being sent to JSA because everyone is hoping to get a PSA 10 and sell for big money. With those prices for cards seeming to look like in the past I think will see less and less going to PSA now. But will see in near future people at shows having $1 boxes full of cards PSA 9 and lower of no name guys.
