wow just researching this it looks like major lawsuits are in the works against all involved. I am new to grading and I am appalled , measuring the card is not a requirement for grading ?? if not that's absurd and moving forward I BET anything that changes

just search trimming or look at threads started by the awesome BODA agents like 3124508 on COMC, SuperDan, and more.

Go there and you will have hours upon hours of reading material and should learn a lot.
Link to the major lawsuits?
I assumed something, from someone, would get filed sooner or later. But I haven't read anything on it.
I know people were talking about the feds jumping in too. But again, I haven't read anything on that either, outside of random rumors.

Just wait until you hear about the people who protect the trimmers too. The guys who are a mailing address for big time trimmers, and get a commission back from the trimmers so that way the cards get lost in the shuffle and never get traced back to those trimming.

if measuring the card is not being done , if you were PSA OR BGS wouldn't you want to make an announcement that from here on out they will be required to measure every card?? crazy this was not required from DAY ONE

There are insanely detailed breakdown threads on this. Not only specific cards but who is doing the trimming, how it’s done, etc. it’s THE topic these days.

Don’t hold your breath, and BGS has its share of serious issues. Check the thread on the guy getting all black label 10s.
This hobby is full of crooks and fraudsters.

Even if one were to disregard the black label fiasco, BGS will also grade sheet-cut cards but will not reflect that in the label.

Moral of the stories at this point is to stay away from the high end stuff to avoid the risk the best you can.

BGS gives out 10's on cards with obvious flaws to certain customers. They are just as dirty and do the exact same crap. I would say SGC could make some waves, but they graded some cracked and trimmed cards recently and authenticated a bunch of vintage signed cards. All the signees were deceased and many of the cards had been previously graded without the signature
I am buying only lower grade with eye appeal for my vintage collection and don't really see much point in grading new. I'm not even sure how you go about selling newer high value cards anymore:confused: Seeing all the EBay horror stories on here leads me to believe that my fellow sport card collectors are the biggest problem with the hobby. Addicts, con artists and trimmers are making sports card collecting an embarrassment.

As someone posted above...it baffles me that there isn't a standard size the card must meet to be considered NOT trimmed.
All these cards are the same size. If one doesn't meet the standard...consider it trimmed and move on right?
This hobby isn't sustainable with all the accusation flying around... Yikes!

Exactly!
The grading companies are still holding on to their old standards. Sure, decades ago the machinery used to cut cards could very often tilt, dull or otherwise run lose and the cards they are cutting can run short/long
But those were old press cuts on chipboard.
Todays cards are high gloss, refractor surfaces and just a different type of cardboard in general. You no longer just press a sheet to cut out cards. These days its almost an act of science to get the right surface, and thickness, of cards cut to proper form.
Yes, some people swear they still get modern cards short or long right out of the pack. Mistakes happen.
That just means a card that is truly perfect, and the exact size it should be, would be even harder to find and worthy of the money a top grade would get.
If its short, it gets slabbed authentic short or no grade at all.
Keep that standard on any card made in the past 25 years, and a lot of these issues go away.
Bleaching, pressing, trimming vintage cards will still be an issue. And truly a harder one to uncover for a grader. But how hard is it to have line paper in front of you, with a standard size for a modern card, and you just hold the card to grade on top of that?

More amazing is the amount of people still sending their cards off for grading. What is PSA at now? 4 months? Or PSA 10's still commanding a 2, 3, 4, 10X premium? As much has been uncovered, yet the money still rolls into both of these companies as if nothing happened. Discouraging doesn't even begin to describe it.
If anything, I think the trimming/doctoring is only going to get worse. With the new breed of investors/flipper (yeah I am looking at you shoe guys), knowing they can get away with it and make a crap ton of money is only going to encourage it.
Most may disagree but this is a really bad time for the hobby IMHO. Money may be flowing in but it isn't positive. I fear a lot of honest people are going to continue to get burned and in time are going to lose their a**. People can say the hobby is strong, but to someone like me, it is not fun anymore
