An eBay buyer purchased one of my listings (low-end, ~$30) and I immediately shipped out the next day without insurance.
Tracking shows no progress as of 4/1/20. I wasn't aware until he reached out to me about it yesterday.
Is it basically a loss? Obviously, I'm fortunate that it wasn't more valuable (but I also buy insurance for mid-end/high-end cards anyway).
I'll suck it up as a loss if need be, but wondering if I have any possible alternatives. I don't like throwing away money unless it's poker...

Thanks for the suggestion. I entered my number for text updates the other day but I didn't bother to enter my email details (just did it now).
In the case that nothing changes, suck it up as a loss, right?

Hopefully you have a patient buyer that will give it a few days.
It seems like these "lost in no man's land" packages are becoming the norm anymore.
I've had a few and they end up getting delivered eventually but who needs the stress?

USPS typically does not consider a package lost until 21 days have passed since mailing.

My buyer opened up a case yesterday, even after I sent him a message that I'd look into the matter (and have). I do understand his concerns though but wish he'd be a little patient because it might be delayed due to COVID-19.

I remember you also live in NY?
I think NY USPS is operating on limited staff. My mailman is changing almost daily, before it would take months for the route changes.
Also, this is what I have noticed for the past few weeks is that if you dropped it off in a collection box not close to the post office. Acceptance scans becomes very rare, there would be no updates until scan at the package destination sorting facilities.

So these were my results for the past weeks.
10 packages dropped of in the USPS collection box near my home last week. Only 8 packages got scanned as of now, but it took some time for the scanning to update.
However, All packages that I dropped off at the collection boxes within the post office got acceptance scan on the same day or the next day.

Another thing to do is to contact your postmaster, their internal computers will have more information.
If the package never shows up, your out the money.
Not to long ago, I made a purchase took about a month to get it. I'm in Michigan, package was stuck in Tennessee. It was after I talked wit the postmaster it stay moving again.

I live in CA. But I wouldn't be surprised if many other locations are working with limited staff. It was scanned mid-route (early) then it just stopped being updated.

Thank you very much for this suggestion. I'll do this today.

Maybe follow the advice of the person above and reach out to local postmaster. Never hurts.

That state is the worse out all of them. Takes at least 3 days to leave the state.
When it gets to the state it take 3 days to get where it needs to go.

I emailed and left voicemails with the Oakland Postmaster/PCC Co-Chair and PCC Coordinator. Waiting to hear back from them. I also opened a case online with USPS and literally just spoke with a customer services representative from the destination area (they confirmed no receipt yet). I ended up refunding the buyer and informing the CS rep from the destination area that I'd like the package returned to me when/if found. They said they'd also contact my local branch (Oakland) too.
Sucks but it is what it is.

We bought a well review wifi extender that drop-shipped from China. Saw it in Chicago on April 5th, nothing since, still waiting.

I'm dealing with this quite regularly.
Shipping from Canada to the US seems to be the worst for me right now, but also within Canada can be bad too. I've stopped overseas shipping for the time being.
A card from Vancouver to Toronto took a month. Mailed out March 8th and delivered April 9th. Vancouver to Calgary is also bad. The T.O. buyer reached out with his concerns and we stayed in touch while he remained very patient. Eventually his card showed up.
A few items to the US have taken 6+ weeks.
I've processed a couple of refunds with a caveat/request that the buyer responds in good faith if/when the cards arrive, but haven't heard a peep back.
Also, when I mail out I message buyers through eBay letting them know the postal delivery systems can be way out of whack and to please be patient and expect delays. Most customers are completely understanding and appreciate the communication.

I just got one of these today too, with a package sent around the same time as yours. It was headed to Puerto Rico and has been stuck in international distribution for 2 weeks now. Seems like this is pretty common right now.

I bought a comic that has been “in transit” since April 3rd from San Francisco. I realize things are out of whack right now, so I told the buyer I would give it a month, until May 3rd, before I pursued any kind of refund. I feel for the guy because he did everything right on his end. I had the same thing happen to me, as a seller, on a $150 card. Lost in transit, never showed up, I lost the money and the card.

I've had a TON of things go to International Distribution recently, as well. ALL seem to have come from "Hot Spots" (NY, MI or WA)- I have a theory that involves UV lights...
