View Full Version : USPS being slow for anyone else?

I’ve noticed over the past week the post office has gotten crazily slow recently, like one package i’ve been waiting has been stuck in Chicago for almost a week without movement and another package i shipped has been in transit for almost 4 days without an update. That’s just 2 and i’m sure there’s more. Anyone else experiencing these delays as well? I’m sure it has to do with Covid and stuff but just wondering if it’s only me having these annoying delays?

I've only ordered a couple of things off of eBay in past couple weeks. They both came within three business days. Granted, they were both shipped from Las Vegas.

I had a master gypsy queen set from this year that I dropped off at the post office in the drop off box on 4/2....1st scan in the system was 4/29! I dropped about 40 1st class and priority in the box at the same time and they were all fine. The buyer was really patient and I was going to give him a refund today but then tracking showed up. I also have alot of packages where none of the tracking updates until the delivery scan. USPS is doing a
The best they can in light of everything going on. 1st class maybe takes an extra day on average.

People really do not get it.
I knew it was the pandemic that would be the cause of the slowness, but I personally was wondering if it was certain areas going through it or if everywhere was, or if I was just having a bad “strike” recently

Yes. I shipped about 200 packages over the past 60 days and a few of them were delayed as much as 2 weeks. Overall, fairly smooth. But there defiantly have been delays.

Yeah, and while we're at it, I can't find a good restaurant to eat at! What the hell?
Seriously, just like any other business, any post office location is going to be impacted by the number of people they have available. There are lines out the door at the one by my house because they hardly ever have more than one window open these days. I presume sorting/delivering is facing the same issues. Some areas are moving fine, others have ground to a halt.

Yup.. I sent my tax paperwork via USPS certified mail and it has been stuck at one place for 5 days now :(
I'm with everyone else...it has been very slow. I sent a Priority Mail package from NYC to PSA that took eight days to get there. I get that it's the entire way across the country, but still not even close to their usual 2-3 day service.

Been a brutal week for me. Selling from Canada add customs issues. Non stop emails from buyers. Most nice but some people are not understanding at all.
Does anyone realize maybe cards are behind because of what is happening in the world? The crappy thing is it is all under $20 cards.
Got my first negative today so that sucks...

If it was for slow or not arrived then contact Ebay if you shipped in the stated handling time and it should be removed. I had one the other day get left for slow shipping time and it was removed within 30 minutes of it being left without me even reporting it.

You are in the epicenter of the covid-19 outbreak where the whole state/city is locked down. You're lucky you got anything out of NYC in the last 45 days.

It's a couple cards I'm really looking forward to too, so makes being patient even harder. I'm thinking if it doesn't show up in tomorrow's mail I'll reach out and see if I can get any more info. Spoke too soon. He opened item not received case. 10 days is decent amount of days but during the current events I think it isn't enough especially coming from Michigan. I just told him earlier today I had called USPS about it. You would think he'd at least wait to see how that turns out.

I'm about 50 minutes from Detroit; almost everything goes there first before it comes to me. A lot of stuff has taken 3 weeks to get to me, no matter where in the country it's coming from. Once in awhile something comes in less than a week...there's no predicting it. I currently have multiple items (coming to me) that have been sitting in Michigan with no update on tracking in 10 days.
...the stuff that I have shipped out has all made it to its destination in 1 week or less.

I am from Canada. I am getting hammered with emails. Like somehow it is my fault for slow shipping by the USPS.
Shipping within Canada seems to be running smoothly however...had no complaints within Canada yet.
If you can have patience I would say just wait it out. I am sure the seller is getting multiple emails. All of my buyers are getting the cards just much later.
Anything over $100 I send UPS and it seems to be running smooth. At least I haven't gotten any complaints yet.

Yes, I am noticing this. All had been fine until this week. But several packages are slow crawling their way to my mail box.
Obviously, there are much bigger issues in the world, but in the context of online card buying, mail service is a bit slow right now.

I’ve had 2 packages in limbo, one outbound and one inbound. USPS just says it’s due to COVID-19 which I feel they’re going to use as an excuse for the time being. It’s been month for both and it’s hard for me to believe COVID-19 is the reason packages aren’t being scanned or are lost somewhere. Other than that, I’ve been receiving everything on time.

The pandemic is wreaking havoc on the postal system.
I have been selling on Ebay since 1998.
A few years ago, I also added on Amazon and Mercari as additional selling platforms.
I ship approximately 4,000 packages a year, give or take.
In all the time I have been selling, I think I have had to file claims for lost mail maybe 5 times- about once every 4 or 5 years on average.
Currently, I have 18 packages in the dreaded "In transit to next facility" phase. Some of them with shipping dates of late March/early April.
The oldest of them are two 56 pound boxes of books headed to an apartment in Brooklyn, NY. Tracking says they are currently in the Jersey City, NJ distribution facility- but the tracking has showed that since April 6th. I finally filed the insurance claim for the packages and spoke to the post office claims department about it. The person I spoke to said she has worked for the post office for 30 years- 20 at a store (what they call the local branches you go into to mail stuff) and 10 years in the claims department. She told me that there are many facilities that are severely understaffed at the moment and that mail is just being stored anywhere and everywhere and that it will take quite some time to get it all delivered. Some facilities are so jammed with mail, that it is even being stored at off-site storage facilities that the post office is leasing. She was sure that the size and weight of my packages turned off the carrier and they just put them in the overflow pile not wanting to deal with such heavy boxes right now. Not comforting, but she did approve my claims and I have already received my money and refunded the buyer.
For the foreseeable future, all my shipments will go out fully insured. This whole mess has to be costing the post office dearly.

Wow. Storing it in off-site facilities? Unbelievable. Hard to imagine that much extra mail being shipped.
I’ve wondered how this would compare to shipping during the holidays, but it sounds like it is far worse.

I don't think it's extra mail being shipped- although I have seen an increase in the number of packages I have shipped these past few weeks. But overall- probably not as much mail these days as before the pandemic.
I think it's more the reduced number of postal workers at the facilities and the mail that is being sent overwhelming them. It's just piling up at places and they can't handle it all. I also asked what the process would be for delivery when things get better- like will the oldest stuff there get delivered first and the woman I spoke to said probably not as that stuff is probably buried the furthest and that the stuff on top would most likely be first. Not good.

Generally, it takes some time for it to show up as scanned. Like 5-12 hours or so. And on a lot of pick ups they don’t bother with the initial scan.

Nothing is normal right now. Dallas is still under a stay at home order and Texas still has restrictions on what can and cannot open. Dallas area is having a pretty decent surge in cases in the past week or so.

Apparently the package required a sig due to insurance. Beckett wont go pick it up and I cant get hold of the post office to get it back to me. So it is sitting there.
I called beckett and the CS rep said we sign for them but if it isnt here we dont get it.
Im told I have to call the 800 number for the post office to see if they can help.
