I worked for a promotions company during college that gave away tons of free stuff at events. People LOVE free stuff. It doesn't even matter what it is, you start giving it away and people will push and shove to get it, then be pissed when it's gone. They're like vultures on a carcass.

But if an extra 100 people join the chat to try for a free $30 pack, and 5 end up sticking around to join a future break, it's excellent advertising spend. I appreciate that Houdini also gives away things like card stands or shot glasses to people who join the breaks!
