View Full Version : PSA submission is back - Perfect!!!

I got my first PSA submission back today. This was an economy sub, and was received by PSA in mid-January, so it took about 6 months to get back. I submitted through ClayCards on Instagram and he did a great job cleaning them. All 25 cards I submitted came back as PSA 10s. I definitely didn't expect this, and I'm ecstatic with the results.

Haha, I did get hit with a value upcharge for some of the cards exceeding the economy level value limit, but I didn't mind paying that.

I submitted cards through a guy named Clay Plaughter. I think this Clay was out of Ohio and he was terrible. I submitted about 15 cards and 1 came back a PSA 10. As a matter of fact, Clay put his big, fat thumb print on a couple of the cards (that he was supposed to wipe down before he submitted them). PSA encapsulated the thumb prints and blessed us with a PSA 6.
I sure hope this was a different Clay.......
Gratz! But 6 months for an economy order is nuts.

Weird you had that experience with him... he’s widely viewed as “the best.”
I have a big submission with him that I’ve been waiting on since Feb. hopefully no sixes in there!

The only thing this guy is the best at, is pimping the next submission. Can’t blame him for the terrible PSA turnaround time, but the customer service is beyond terrible. Ever seen Slabbed Optic cards with thumb prints? Good times....

Yeah not a whole lot of communication.
My biggest issue (this is my first sub period) was when he sent me his evaluation of what should/shouldn’t be sent and I disagreed with him. I am pretty fanatical with inspection so I asked what looked off (two of the cards were PERFECT under a loop and I thought we’re the best out of the 40 cards I sent in)and he said “I honestly don’t remember, I’ve looked at thousands of cards.” I didn’t trust that so had him just submit everything - don’t really care if it messes up his “stats” or whatever.
I may try Jewcer next time or just do it myself.

You know how that you say that, I sent him 4 cards and the only one he submitted, which was the most expensive was the only one I didn’t think had a guaranteed gem.

This is what I am going to do. He said the same exact words to me and another member who submitted through him. It is like he has those words on a loop and just spit them out anytime anyone questions a card.
Congrats on batting 1000, but I implore any and all of you to NOT go through Clay. This was the worse experience ever for me and i had to wait 7 months. No communication until after the grades had popped and we wondered how cards that were no worse than 9 could come back as 6's. Then we saw his thumb prints on the cards. Never again. The good news is that Jewcer will get my business in the future and it won't be Clay.
Make no mistake about it, there is no advantage with going with Clay.......

Congrats on the sub OP. I have two submissions outstanding with Clay, the first submission was entered by PSA back in mid January, still waiting...obviously can’t speak for the results yet, but the process submitting to Clay was pretty painless. The cards he didn’t think were gem-worthy I tended to agree with once I got them back and inspected more carefully.

I had a similar experience. I am expecting my first submission back in about a month so we'll see about the results. The few that Clay recommended not to submit, I had a feeling weren't going to be 10s either. Looking forward to getting the results back.

I put best in quotes for a reason... while everyone on these boards mentions you, off these boards all I hear about is Clay. Guys like Slabtox talk about Clay nonstop (I understand there’s probably an arrangement there) and lots of other big IG guys use him as well. I watched a lot of his results streams and the gem rate was always very high... mixed with a huge volume he did, I figured a sub with him was at least safe.
Haven’t said that, and as I pointed out in other posts in this thread, the experience hasn’t been as amazing as I’d hoped for. Grade results in the end are all that matter, so we shall see.
I’ve got a pile of 60 cards waiting to be sent to PSA and probably won’t be through Clay.

Jewcer gets my business next. The cards I shipped were centered and clean. Two graded awful, and were popped. Finger prints were photographed in the slab for my records. I have $25K worth of cards shipped off for half a year. If he’s going to continue to sub at the rate he does, he needs hire help. Dude will ignore you unless it’s a PayPal addy needed.
I get it, too many rookies asking dumb ?s, but I sent a huge sum. Cards were gone 6 months, (not his fault) but he needs to stay in Contact with folks. I didn’t send just a bunch of 18/19 fresh from pack stuff. My items are no better than the next guys, but when I ask a ?, dont ignore me. I’m not kicking the tires here, I’m doing business with you....

Interesting.
I guess I have a different perspective because I don’t pay someone to advertise for me. (Other than in SMR).
If you don’t want to / can’t evaluate your cards then he is definitely an option. If you want the best communication, best prices and best overall service I’d say it’s not close.
I don’t know his volume but I know that no group submitter is near the quantity we send in. No one playing in the same league in quantity.

Great results OP. But mixed review about the `cleaning`i guess , from best to worst.
The thing i like the most about jewcer is that you dont have to bug anyone , you just check is website daily for any updates. Even the sub groups i follow on facebook the guy`s submitting are always left in the dark about any updates. They have to message the submitter many time for any reply.

People asking the same question over and over again is certainly frustrating. It’s why we built the website and the FAQ. 99% of questions are answered there and if we get a question over and over we just add it.
Appreciate the opportunity to earn your business.

I had a terrible experience with Clay Plaugher ("Clays Cards") and I know handfuls of others have had even worse experiences with him and his PSA services. A lot of his customers message via FB and instagram since Clay does a terrible job communicating and customers are always left putting pieces together. These are a few of the confirmed things about Clay:
1) he charges for cleaning and inspection, but he does not actually do these things. there is endless proof (before & after pics, etc.) of customers getting cards back with far worse surfaces then when it left their hands originally. Additionally, there is an obscene amount of modern cards that get 6s, 7s, and 8s.
2) He does NOT like to communicate and gets irritated if you ask the status of your cards (even if you only ask once in 6 months). He copies and pastes idiotic responses that don't even align with any question you may have for him. He takes a terrible attitude if you ask him reasonable questions.
3) He is in WAY over his head, or is just a completely unorganized clown. He doesn't have his ducks in a row compared to other graders like Iron, Cade's, Sappy's, etc. He is never able to get his sub out "in time" and often has to break up sub orders into multiple groups because he falls so far behind. Therein leaving customers completely confused when their cards were actually submitted.
4) He is unable to be transparent. There is a lot of shady things going on including #1 and #3, but above all else, Clay is just not professional or transparent. He has never had the basic spreadsheets that show sub dates, psa statuses, etc (like all the others subbers do), he doesn't like to check psa statuses at all for that matter, and he just doesn't like to post properly for all his waiting customers.
5) His grades are trash. I have the final grade excel files to prove it (he finally typed one up like a 6th grader). Of all the grades, only one or two guys of the bunch get lucky each time with a few 10s (as anybody would); but in general, most customers receive majority of 9's and some get shocking 6s and 7s on modern cards. I'll let other customers chime in on that as well.
For my money, I would never go to Clay. There are so many better subbers that continue to crush all the service levels: Sappy, Josh Cade, Iron PSA Subs (Rob Valenti), and Scott Cowsert. Clay is a ripoff and borderline scammer.

Nailed it!!!! This is basically my entire experience with Clay wrapped up in a nice little write-up. He did not wipe any cards down, thumb prints all over the place, a bunch of 9's (and a couple of 6's that if got resubbed would be either
9's or 10's).
I thought I would try this guy since he was recommended, but the good news is, Jewcer is now going to get more business because of Clay.
I just can't understand, for the life of me, how the OP was able to go through Clay and get his cards back all dimed......
I subbed 14 cards of the same guy, every one was spot on. I figured, at least, 1/3 - 1/2 would be 10's and all came back 9's and 8's. Not a single 10. That was certainly horsesh$t........

Interesting to see his grades being trash because on the live stream I've only seen grades of 8 or below a handful of times... and I've watched a lot. Does he just not show them? Curious...
I specifically asked if he "cleans" the cards (ie: wipe them with micro) and he said yes... considering I didn't do that before I sent them in, I'm bracing myself for some really bad surface scores.
I'm glad these issues on him are coming out now because I couldn't really find anything bad about him back in February.

Wow, I'm surprised to see that so many people have had issues with Clay. My order was submitted in a group and overall we had 157 of 164 cards graded PSA 10. The communication could probably be better, but I'm happy with the results. This is my first submission with him though, so it's a very small sample size.

I've used Clay once in the past and have a current sub with him and had great results the first go around. When you say he charges for cleaning and evaluation I dont see that. His sub rate is about the same as everyone else's, if not cheaper, and doesn't do an extra charge for cleaning and evaluation like others. I dont have a problem with people charging extra for cleaning and evaluation if I trust their abilities in both (I will gladly pay Sappy his fee for every card I send to him because he's that good) but Clay doesnt have this upcharge.
Just curious what other shady things do you think Clay is doing?

I wonder how many others have been dissatisfied with Clay's service?? Seems like you only hear about the home runs and not the strike outs...…..

Do you guys recommend anyone else on insta instead of clay? I know about Jewcer but I have done all my group subs on insta and want to keep it in the same place.

Hasn't he said enough?????
I mean his "shady" things he listed were he charged for cleaning which I pointed out wasnt true and that he has trouble getting subs out because hes swamped, which I'm not sure how that is classified as "shady". Just sounds like he's overwhelmed with business and under staffed which he openly talks about pretty much daily with public posts.

Right, fresh off the heels of a guy trying to call out claycards on FB scammers page only to try to pump up his own sub group.

lol I read them and I still dont see how Clay is "shady" or a "scammer", if you arent happy with his business execution that's one thing but to call him shady and a scammer means you are accusing him of doing unethical things like switching out cards, losing cards only to sell said lost card(s), promising to send you your cards back and never doing it, etc.
Like I said I've used clay in the past and have a current sub with him and also have subs out currently out with 3 other people. I'm not a claycards fanboy but my experience with him is quite different.
First go around sent him about 60 cards, he said not to send in half of them and the 30 he did send...26 were 10's and 4 were 9's. He only messaged us when the status at PSA changed, he didnt message us every week saying "same status as last week" that's just unnecessary so communication was done as needed. This was also a 45 day which we all know is taking half a year for PSA to process so extended periods of time without an update was to be expected. He also never sounded "irritated" in the several times I've messaged, and to call him a scammer when his sub rate is cheaper than if you send in yourself and about the same as everyone else's with no upcharge for cleaning and evaluation makes no sense lol. If he were to upsell you an additional $4 to "clean" the card on top of the sub rate and then leave a thumb print but still charge you $4...THAT's a scam
Like I said I use several people to grade with, also just recently heard good things about jewcer and asked around on BO on how to find info on him, so I have no dog in this fight. I just dont think its right to be openly calling someone shady and scammer with no real basis behind it.

What bugs me a little bit is the way he picks out which cards to grade. I’ve subbed w him several times and he always chooses not to grade the cleanest cards which is weird but ig he knows better than I do.
