Curious to see if these rooks slow down next year, will the prizm wax come down a bit.

Anyway, I liked a few sequence of Rui today when he was doing that jump shot on kawhi, and then out 'clawing' the claw himself on one instance.

Seems like a hardworking kid too, hope he pans out.

To the contrary, his ceiling is high because he has a built in following. He is half Japanese and Asian. Adam Silver and the league will do everything they can to set this kid up for success. There is a reason why wizards are even in the bubble in the first place and it’s definitely not because of their record or players other than Rui; the Asian market.

He still has raw tools and needs to bulk up, he only did start playing basketball at 14yo.

THIS... picture a more sustainable and subtle "Linsanity" for the league. Rui is polished off the court, and the league will support his development in hopes that he becomes a fringe all star level player.

I am rooting for the kid, and I think hobby wise he will always have a high demand in Japan or from Gonzaga fans who are still mourning from Adam Morrisson

You have a good point about Adam Silver probably see this as an opportunity to market him to the Asian market.

And it really doesnt matter the msrp going forward. Shelves will still get cleaned. Panini is just printing money at this point. Weak draft class won’t matter one bit.

It depends on how the pandemic impacts the 2020-2021 incoming rookies:

The overall class seems weaker and there has been no built-up hype. March madness is where we typically see stars in the making not coming from big name programs, like Morant. There is currently also no confirmed schedule for a nba summer league type of setup. If indeed there will be a summer league. The second bubble is not set in stone - and who gets to participate in the 2nd bubble?

The above reasons just means then that hobbyists and flippers will gravitate to rookies from the prior year and subsequently continue to drive up the 2019-2020 wax prices. They will find values on other rookies overshadowed by Zion and Ja.

And at the end of the day, rookies like Rui will have an extended view from collectors and will eventually prove his worth.

Personally, Rui is already getting million dollar investments from Japanese companies. I have friends living in Tokyo where he is being set up to be the flag bearer for the Tokyo Olympics next year. The amount of stories and exposure written about him will only increase. And if he ever comes to play for a major market like Los Angeles with a big population of Asians and Japanese or even the Bay Area - whose major investor is Rakuten and Soft Bank, big Japanese conglomerates.... then you already missed the boat.

When we look back 3 years from now, Rui will be the one that was the steal of the draft.

Kobe was supposed to play Jesus in the movie. But after he had those air balls against Utah, he wanted to focus on shooting that summer. Other people approached were McGrady, Marbury, and AI among others. Spike Lee settled on Allen.

Back to Rui - good game today. I think he’ll have even more opportunities when there are actual set plays being run on offense. You can clearly see the vanilla plays or even lack off being run on these scrimmages. But despite all that, he finds ways to create for himself.

Looking forward to actually him being the point person for every initial entry pass and creating offense off of that. Japanese Jesus got game.

57 bids, 24 different bidders and settled at $787. PWCC has its own clientele that don’t look at eBay sales. Rui hype is real. I used their services before and every bid is monitored to make sure that there are no games being played.

Unless Lonnie Walker is half Asian/Japanese, then maybe.

What we have here is the Japanese Jesus effect. Basketball is arguably the most popular and most watched sport in Asia. Linsanity wouldn’t have happened without the Asians in the US and Asia making it happen. And here you have the first Asian basketball player selected in the lottery since Yao Ming. He still has great upside since he only started playing at 14yo and already outperforming the #3 overall pick of the same draft.

Yao Ming, in the short amount of years he played fully healthy had an undeniable impact on the revenue and popularity growth of the NBA internationally - especially basketball crazy Asia. Rui will be carrying on the torch and the nba will make sure it will be a success because future growth in overseas market depends on it.

Nomo-mania, Linsanity, Ichiro-mania. Now, Rui-mania. Japanese Jesus will save us all.

I give Lonnie a great chance. Just like Kawhi in the early days though, the Spurs system will cap him a bit and mainly Spurs fans will collect him but not much else.
