How is the all-time leader in steals and assists so cheap? Across the board!
He also has shitty inserts. Why no love for this guy?
I realize I just did this thread for Jim Thome, but I'm just a curious fella trying to make sense out of all this madness.

I don't think his cards are cheap, really. $50-100 for on card autos? Very similar to Magic prices.

His autographs sell pretty well in comparison to other HOF players. Is this a pump thread?
Not much swagger, played in Utah, never won like many MJ opponents. Truly a great though.

great question. he and karl malone and mark eaton were the washington generals for so many years. they each were so great and worthy of hof.

Ok sure everyone Point Guard from the last 3 classes sell for more than him but so what??

Because he gets not that much love I was able to pick up 7 of his autos for less than $200. It ranges from low to mid-end. I think its that low because he signs a TON, he is not flashy and was a quiet guy. I mean look at his segment in the Dream Team doc, he was able to walk Barcelona alone with his family, but any other player on the team it was a mob.

We all know sports card values transcends stats.
It's not just about how good a player is or was.
Popularity comes into play.
Sure, an important measurement is Championship rings as a winning legacy. Hall of Fame status. Records held.
Look at so many NBA HOF'ers with guys in the HOF (even deceased players) commanding less value than these recent rookie players autographed cards.
John Stockton was an amazing player, but as a personality, he's vanilla, looks like Chachi Arcola (Scott Baio) and is great at steals and assists as well as point scoring, but there's not much to him as a star.
I think he's a great investment card as older greats of their era are eventually recognized in the hobby and his card prices are cheap relative to his peers and rookies of today who would n' could only dream of being as good as Stockton.

I’m a father of three. Not much time for pumping. I’ve always been a zig when others zag kinda guy. I just don’t understand why a Luka (who I love) out sells a guy who is the all time leader in steals and assists. I own zero Stockton cards but I’m seriously gonna start collecting him.

doesn’t dunk, no ankle breaking crossover, prefers a bounce pass over lobs. supercuts special. dad shoes.
intentional lack of charisma guaranteed he wouldn’t captivate NBA action audience such as Payton, magic and kidd etc.
talking about NBA action for nostalgia, dont think it even yielded a stockton highlight. what a shame. closest one i can find

Great player but he never won a championship and doesn't have a particularly charismatic personality.
He also played in a small market.
However, if he was in the NBA today, I'm sure coaches would tell him to shoot more. He was super efficient and an underrated shooter, in addition to being a good defender.

I am on a hunt for a raw PSA 9 or higher grade Stockton. I have about 12 PSA 8 quality ones, but the centering is just ok. I have two sitting in boxes waiting for PSA to grade by the year 2025. One is centered perfectly and I am hoping for the 10 to pop on it. I spent months hunting Stockton rookies and let me tell you, this card is undervalued. Finding this card even remotely centered is RARE.

I was just thinkig this myself the other day. How does the All-time leader in Assists AND Steals not get more hobby love. I need to pick up some of his nice on-card autos and maybe a higher, at least mint 9 RC.

Americans in Spain didn't know who he was.

All-Star card in the same set is even harder... and cheaper.

I agree! I was searching last night for some 90’s inserts and he doesn’t have many. Stadium Club Beam Team and Finest Refractors are about it.

Starting in 1994 Flair he started to have quite a few. This is a good reference

Pick up a bunch of his 88-89 Fleer RC's then. He was even ignored back then for THREE YEARS from his Star XRC to his Fleer RC.

Picked this up and love to show it off. One of my favorites cards in my collection. Always wanted it. I agree that Stockton has some of the most undervalued stuff around.

If John and Luka were remotely in the same stratosphere in terms of skillset, then we could have pursued this debate.
