View Full Version : Paninis Terrible Quality Control?

Haven’t collected in years but one thing I’ve noticed is how awful some of paninis cards are printed. Either the printing on the card is off center or like prizm the stamping is off more often than not. I don’t remember upper deck having issues like that. Kinda trash imo but it’s all we got right.

It’s gotten bad. It seems like they are 100% concerned with maximizing every dollar before the hype dies down

This is my favorite:

Prizm is one of the worst. It’s so odd to see so much prestige given to what is generally a sorta crappy set. Besides the usual QC issues it always has, the player selection of the base set can be suspect, and always way behind on featuring players in their current uni. It’s a slap in the face that they don’t put more effort into the cards, knowing how popular they are

the weird thing is i have seen people selling some cards on ebay that are mis-cuts where the tops and bottoms of cards wind up on another card, and the auctions title labels them as error cards... and people bid... am i missing something or why do people want those to me those are not really error cards and they fall under bad QC

I doubt they overly care, just adds another parallel to the mix.

I have print lines on almost every Prizm card I have from them. Super annoying considering how expensive they are these days.

Gotta speak with your wallet to be heard. We are telling panini that we will pay whatever for whatever they put out.

Prizm is meant to be low end. For some reason we decided its worth about as much as National Treasures.

Low end? Not really. Hoops and Donruss are low end.

Prizm hobby was a $175-300 box for most of 2017-2019. Not quite high-end or low-end.

The quality you are getting for me price to me makes it bottom of the barrel. That's just me though

It then seems odd that there are over 12K psa 10 Luka prizm base and over 500 Zion BGS 10s if the quality control is this bad.

They don't have to try to hard anymore, they have a monopoly.
You will pay for it and you will like it.

I think their centering machine needs work.
But on the plus side, it makes centered cards more sought after and valuable.

Pack fresh PSA 10s for everyone, amirite?..............

To be fair, this years Prizm basketball was pretty messed up. But considering there will be plenty of PSA 10 Zions to go around, I think it will be just fine...

Their 3rd party printers print millions of cards. You cannot expect them to get them all. Misprinted framing on Prizm are still PSA 8s, yeah? - with a print run like Prizm, that should only help the perfect versions value long term? Felt like one of the companies didn't penalize that issue as much as other similar issues with other sets either way.

Pokemon cards, come out pretty flawless and they are printed by the millions.
Just saying.

It was originally placed right beside those chocolate Kinder Ball toys, and Garbage Pail Kids blasters in Walmart and Target. Every year the price goes up, the quality goes down. The centering on 19/20 was awful. Ghosting (where the etching doesn't line up with the image) has been bad this year also.

I just went through my Zions, Morants and Coby’s last night to submit for grading.

I opened probably $8K in Mosaic and $5K in prizm, in Canadian (cue conversion jokes), so there are a decent amount of all 3 guys.

Of the 9 base Mosaic Zions I have, only 2 I put aside as not seeing anything that might make it a 9 (which I assume Im missing something anyways).
Of the 6 base Ja Mosaic, 1 is in my pile to submit.
Of the 6 base Zion prizms, 2 made it through with nothing I saw.

Ja Prizm cracked ice Green - off centered
Ja Prizm silver - off centered
Zion prizm auto - off centered
Zion prizm hyper - off centered
Coby Prizm blue shimmer auto - print line
Ja Mosaic Orange reactive - scratch
Ja Mosaic pink camo - dimple and small scratch
Zion Mosaic green prizm - print line and dimple

Now im not much into grading but like everyone i want to maximize value on cards I dont plan on keeping.
But its slim picking at the moment in terms of how cards are coming out of the packs.

Yep that's where it belongs. Panini didnt decide these cards are worth this much, the market did. No smart company is gonna keep selling them cheap when they see the market.
