So I was looking on craigslist and saw a deal that seems too good to be true but thought I'd at least research the matter. Seller wants to sell this card for 1k via craigslist. Do you think this is a real jordan rc? Would love to hear some feedback. Thanks

Craiglist... $10,000 card... in a brand new SGC holder

But they aren't smart enough to know that?

No, I would assume it is not. But hey, maybe they’ve been in a coma for 10 years.

Nobody is going to sell a Jordan rookie for 1k, if it seems to good to be true it probably is.

I don't know much about SGC holders, but one side looks like it might have been popped and resealed.

Too bad you can't even lookup the card # with SGC

If it is in fact an unaltered Jordan SGC 9 for $1000, then it is stolen property.

That card is legit. Make sure you are carrying a weapon when you arrive. This sounds like a CLASSIC craigslist set up. You show up with $1000 cash and eager to make the transaction, while the sketchy person that meets you, suddenly has 9 friends appear and relieve you of your $1000 swiftly.

Also, real scam.

Agreed. Back picture looks frosty on some edges.

They claim to be about 500 miles away in nor cal so any potential deal would be through paypal/shipped via courier. There's just many many red flags...

Craiglist seller when texting linked me to a homemade online shopping site @ .simpl.com website with the jordan rc for sale, a canon 5d camera, and a samsung s20 smartphone for sale. Really janky homemade online store.

Seller originally said his father gave him these cards ~3 years ago. The seller when texting claimed to have an authentic altered psa 1986 fleer #57 for sale as well which he sent me pictures of.. I looked up the bar code on the PSA altered card and found it in the psa database (comes up as a grade AA authentic altered card), and that exact psa card sold recently on ebay for 3k july 2020. I looked up the ebay seller via the PSA database information.

I asked the craigslist seller (one i'm texting) whether this is his listing on ebay since he claims to have owned the cards for ~3 years and they gave a response that doesn't make sense, "It was a guy that text upon it saying he can get more helping me sell maybe at his number"

When researching sgc graded jordan rookie cards I found an old blowout thread on the same topic: https://www.blowoutforums.com/showthread.php?t=1051414
in that thread the blowout user discussed his interactions with his potential seller and mentioned: "I'm getting weird vibes from the seller. She is saying she was given this and a PSA 9 from her dad when he passed away. I asked how long she had it and she claims a year and her dad had it for years before that. The SGC rep said this was turned in for grading by a big auction company last year. To me it looks like the . between the 27 and 2 is missing however these are the pics she has text me and I can't see it clearly. I stated my concerns about this and asked for clearer pics of this exact part of the card and she has since stopped communication (which was after this thread was made)."

Very strange, coinciding scenarios, and both suspect sellers claimed they acquired from their father years ago, albeit both listings are 4 years apart... Seems as if something fishy is going on?

Also, right from the jump the seller dropped the price from $1200 to $1000 for the sgc 9.

My concerns:
1. Fake card?
2. Seller trying to come up on $ w/ no intentions of delivering...

#2 how convenient that he is too far away and wants paypal funds.

When did SGC change their slabs?

No way this is in a new slab and he doesn’t know what he has

Meaning I agree the card might be real (I no expert)

But it’s a clear scam

Received it from their grandpa before heading off to the Civil War to fight wildfires in Guam.

Story checks out.

Not going to buy it but here's the craigslist listing, the same card and same slab ebay listing, and the craigslist's sellers janky .simpl.com website

They have 2 great reviews from satisfied buyers on that online store. I say legit....LOL
The location on the craigslist ad shows person is 5 mins away from my home. Is this faith?

No, I have seen them in an SGC case but there is a dude scamming people constantly on Facebook, Craigslist and OfferUp. It's always MJ,KObe or LeBron. I believe he's from Utah. His MO is to ask for your social media profile or phone number so that HE can trust you when it's really to earn your trust. Typically uses those throw away phones from Wal-Mart.

So they listed it for 13,000 on ebay but are willing to sell offline for a grand to avoid ebay fees? Sounds legit.

Hasn't SGC been using the big numbers on labels for less than a year?

The one on Ebay is located in Illinois. Maybe a five hour flight. Probably four.

If people are gullible enough to continue to buy hundreds of resealed 86 fleer basketball packs for $600 on eBay they will have no problem handling $1k over to this scammer.

Yes. TL/DR, but too good to be true.

Inquire about it and I bet you get some strange pickup/ payment option dished out to you. Some pay this way, blah blah. That will be your red flag. Also ask them to text you a photo of the card with a post it of their cell number or in front of something from today. They probably will not answer your text after you ask that

the real owner of the card (the one listed on ebay) does live in chicago, i know who he is, that is a legit ebay seller.

The craigs list ad is a fake, he screen grabbed/shot the card pictures and is using them.
