hey bud!
anything is worth something to the right person, you just have to do a bit of research.
Melo is also seeing a mini resurgence in his card values after losing a bit of hobby love over the previous 2-3 years. I think people can understand that even though he may retire without a ring, he's still a First Ballot HOF'er who will likely retire somewhere around the Top 10-15 point scorer of all time.
In terms of some cards to potentially chase....any early years Prizm/Select cards featuring him in the Knicks uni would be quite popular.
Also Flawless, Immacualte & NT had some pretty nice autos and patch autos around the time he was a Knick as well.
Just jump on ebay and do a bit of looking around at current items and recently sold items to get an idea whats out there and make an informed decision of what you'd like to go after!

^^^ great advice from one of the top melo collectors you'll come across.
If I had to have 5 melo Knicks cards regardless of budget, I'd go with:
1. 2012-13 Prizm base and parallels
2. Pretty much any flawless patch auto
3. 2016-17 Optic base and parallels (first year of optic, melo last season on NYK)
4. 2017-18 Optic All-Stars inset and parallels (he was on the Thunder that season but I think it's his final NYK team card. Also his 10th and final All Star Game)
5. 2012-13 Select base and parallels (first year of select and melo scoring title season)
I only have the optic stuff, but plan to eventually grab the others I listed some time.

I used to collect Melo big time, but sold most of his NYK stuff to a fellow collector here on BO. I did however, kept one of his first Knicks auto card produced (btw, it is numbered to 5) and his first year gold optic #/10. :)!

I agree with what was said above, his gold prizms to me are the nicest and rarest cards to own, especially his 2012 gold base prizm.
