View Full Version : Explain it to me like I’m five

I know everyone has their opinion (many of them quite strong LOL) but I’m a toploader guy, and can’t for the life of me figure out how to use a Card Saver. I encounter them fairly regularly with Sportlots orders and low end single purchases — I feel like I can’t get them out of the case safely without performing a surgical procedure...and putting them back in there...that’s even worse.

I’m not really looking to switch, but would like to become at least somewhat proficient in removing/inserting cards into these things.

Can someone explain it to me like I’m five?

If you are uneasy....

to remove them, cut them open by cutting both sides with scissors

to put them into one, simply STRETCH it out with your index and middle finger, prior to placing the card inside it

Much needed post, waiting for the explanation myself. Maybe someone can help.

Don't try to open up the Card Saver by squeezing it or anything like that. Put the card in a penny sleeve, keep the card saver flat and slide it in that way.

When putting cards in, the card goes in a penny sleeve first then I use an artist palette knife to help hold them open and slide the card in behind.
Plus the key is PATIENCE.
I usually store in toploaders too so when removing a card I cut the sleeve if it is a higher end card

My favorite's when the corner gets too close to the edge and it pinches and your card starts to pivot on that corner and starts going in diagonally

Use CS1 quite often.
1. Sleeve card
2. Slight squeeze of CS1 between thumb and 4 fingers creates a nice opening of the lip
3. Slide sleeved card in
4. Team bag that puppy shut

I have a piece of rigid card stock paper that i put in first and then slide the card on top of that into the card saver. then i remove the card stock and the card is left.

people use card savers because is the only way you can send cards to PSA, so when you buy a card it's actually a courtesy from the seller to send with one so you don't have to

I thought people just use them to send in cards for grading, or their cards won't fit in a toploader

This are the correct mechanics. I'd add, make sure the card is centered in the penny sleeve (I use "vintage" or "thick card" penny sleeves bc they don't bite the corners of cards) and make sure the sleeved card is inserted in the center of the CS1. Also throw out any CS2 unless it's for a mini card.

1. Put card on lip.
2. Slide card down under top.
3. Profit.

What am I missing here? I haven't bothered with penny sleeves on anything that's not hyper glossy in years. My brain hurts.

I don't get the hate for the CS2...? Isn't it just a slightly larger CS1? I find the CS2 is easier to slide a card given more room, I think it crowds the corners of the card less. But I don't have much experience with CS1 so I'm curious to hear some reasoning.

I'm with you, it's the only holder I trust for anything that's not graded or too thick, at which point I use a one-touch.

CS2s are perfect. I'll die on this hill.

haha, my bad... I actually use CS1's too :cool:.

Sigh, had a lot of work and school yesterday and was in my first organic chem lab for 3.5 hours yesterday so my brain is still kinda shot.

I forget which off-brand makes the slightly smaller version, but that was what I avoid. I think the CS1's are the perfect size, though I don't mind the CS2 either.

As for fitting the card into the CS1, like others have mentioned, I first open it up a little bit with my fingers, just give it a good stretch and then slide a penny-sleeved card right in. I think the trick is just don't force it all the way to the bottom. I leave my card right about dead-center, and kind of nearer to the top. I notice way less of the chromium/prizm cards getting the 'humid sticking to sleeve' effect compared to regular toploaders, as I think they can 'breathe' a little easier in the CardSavers.

CS2 are smaller... because it makes sense...

CS1 = Medium
CS2 = Small
CS3 = Does this even exist? My bad, Tall Boys!
CS4 = Large

:D

Haha, I thought I was going crazy. I went upstairs to take a look--and yep, they're all CS1s. Not sure why I had them mapped in my head as CS2s this whole time.
