I will sell you my membership for $7,000. You should be able to recoup that within a year or two no problem.

Correct, thats it. You gotta pay to play and trying to join MC for 2021 is going to be wild as bots will try to buy as many memberships to then buy boxes via presell, to then sell the boxes. Nobody is joining for the cards...people be joining for the online exclusive boxes to sell once received

If Topps had the technology (which I doubt, given the crapiness of their site), they could dutch auction the 2021 MC memberships and make a killing.

Dutch Auction like Panini does their FOTL products.

Why would anyone aside from large dealers and breakers want this? In theory Breakers and Distributors could pay a premium for memberships and then pass on the cost to the collectors pricing out all of the average collectors who currently have memberships. They could monopolize cards even more than they do currently

I don't understand this response and how a dutch auction would be a good idea for your average collector.

Thats why the Dutch Auction was started by Panini for the average collector. I use to never get product from Panini when it went on sale, it sold out in minutes. The Dutch auction gives everyone a chance. i have been able to purchase since Panini went to that format.

You’re assuming Topps cares about the average collector. It’s a business and money is king.

The Dutch auction was started by Panini for the "average collector". It gives everyone a chance and yeah the company makes more.

Don't be fooled, Panini started the Dutch Auction to make more profit while making it seem like they were helping out the "average collector".
It's evident in how they set their starting price AND floor price. It's evident by the number of new basketball products coming out this year. They wanted to milk an opportunity.

I agree they are out for themselves like most businesses should. In turn they have made it where I am able to buy product I used to have no shot at.
