Basketball guy here. I admittedly know nothing about hockey but have a friend who's interested in the hobby and has a birthday coming up. He's also a big hockey fan. I want to get him a cool card but don't really know where to start so looking for some guidance.

It can be any era, any team, any type of card. Any relevant players with nice looking autos under $20?

What is the best card I can gift my buddy for under $20? Pictures would be great. Thanks for any suggestions!

So he's a Dallas Stars fan perhaps?
Tough to offer anything up without knowing his allegiance.

Thanks for the reply. He does like the Stars, but he's really a fan of the game in general. He was rooting for the Blues during the finals. Doesn't have to be a Stars card.

I don’t have a photo, but I’m amazed you can get an on card auto of Ted Lindsay for $20.00. There is an on card 2000 topps heritage auto of him (1954 topps reprint) for $22.53 plus shipping. It has a best offer, but comes from Canada, there are several other on card autos of him for around $20 as well. But honestly in hockey you can get a bunch of hall of famer autos for $20-$30 it just depends who he is a fan of.

I know you said it doesn’t have to be a Dallas Star but I saw a few Miro Heiskanen auto’s for under $20 as well. The way he’s been playing I can’t see anyone being disappointed with one of his cards for a gift either. With hockey you have a ton of options, good luck with your choice

Lots of choices for certified autos of so many recognizable superstars and HOFers for around $20 or less-
EBay the name using search "Price + Shipping: lowest first" brings up a lot of stuff.
Denis Potvin, Mike Modano, Brian Leetch, Chris Chelios, Mike Bossy, Larry Robinson, Bobby Clarke, Marcel Dionne, Luc Robitaille, Phil and Tony Esposito, Yvan Cournoyer, Bryan Trottier....it's endless
And for great values on many current young rising stars search by year for "OPC Platinum auto". these are on-card autographs- no stickers.

For my dollar, the 1995-96 Patrick Roy Pinnacle Rink card is almost perfect. Awesome landscape photo and the foil's "burst" center is perfectly placed. Great composition, great photo, and great other player in the photo too!

Can be had for $6-10. Good thing nobody reads hockey forums or it would be a $20 by this evening just for us mentioning it.

My other favorite in that price range is the 1981 OPC Gretzky Super Action

I'm a sucker for action shots.
