.....because possible MVP...
I don't think he's a lock. What if Ozuna wins or splits the votes? Ozuna has him beat in HR, RBI, and batted .338
Truth is its really only between the 2.
But seems the demand for Freeman (at higher prices) is solely due to the probable MVP.

Could be because he is having a great season; with or without the award.

Freeman also just finished his age 30 season and is closing in on 40 WAR, a MVP would go a long way if he’s borderline HoF. Average 1B HoF’er has 66 WAR, so there’s a lot of work to do still, but he’s not a Mo Vaughn or Ryan Howard, he might be able to play till he’s 40. If he can hold on at All-Star levels for 3-4 more years he’ll be closing in on a lock HoF call one day.

Barring something catastrophic I could seem him playing late. He's as good as it gets defensively at first, and he's not necessarily slow on the bases either. He takes this MVP, and continues a couple more years at peak levels, and he'll definitely have a case.
Maybe throw in one of those "I wouldn't mind adding a batting title to my resume" seasons like Chipper did towards the end of his career, and he'll 100% be in the discussion. He could definitely do it. His power #'s would suffer that season, but it would be one of those things the voters love. Hell, he got pretty close this year without sacrificing any power. Freeman trying to just pile up hits could definitely see him finishing a season with a .360+.
Even with a normal dropoff in his age 35-38 seasons he could still be in at some point if he can put up some good numbers the next 3-4 seasons.

Also, I still don't understand why teams continue to shift so hard on him. It seems completely pointless.

Anyone here see anything on this chart that screams "We should definitely shift on this guy!" It's baffling to me.

I mean, yeah. His pull side does have more delicious little skittles on it, but not enough to employ a shift.

yup he's getting attention for possible MVP and then people are digging deeper and realizing he might have been underrated (and underpriced) all these years.

Beside his main rookie cards and the current year cards. I haven't noticed a change in price yet. As far as MVP. He might have similar stats as Ozuna but let's not forget Ozuna was basically a DH and we all know how DHs do in the votings. Freeman is a Top Defensive 1st Baseman. His stats beside the main ones were better then Ozuna. The MVP is Freeman.

I thought Freeman was going to have an MVP season in 2017 until he got hit by a pitch that fractured his wrist. He had been blistering the ball up until that point. I've always viewed him as being very underrated, so it would definitely be nice to see him pick up a MVP this season.
Disclosure: Oddly enough, despite my high opinion of him as a player, I somehow have acquired zero of his key/relevant cards.

Huge Braves fan here. Don't see the appeal of buying any Freeman stuff now. Let's face it, he's an awesome player, but not a transcendent one. No way his values will continue to increase long term, regardless of a potential MVP award.

Bingo. An MVP added to his track record will go a long way.

Wow Topps Chrome rookie autos are well over a $100 now. Glad I snagged mine for $40 before the 2019 season. Agree with the Braves fan above though it’s a terrible time to buy him. Glad I have five nice ones tucked away before the price surge.

I can't believe his 2009 Bowman Chrome X-Fractor autos in BGS 9.5 are selling for $1200-$1400. I have one I paid $120 for 7-8 years ago, but don't have access to it right now to list it. Also have a gold one that I'd never sell, but I wish someone else would so I could see how much it'd go for haha.
And the raw super just sold too for $25k. I remember when someone on this board was upset about getting the 2011 Topps Chrome Super Auto as a replacement from Topps for something lol. Don't know if they ended up keeping it or not, but I bet it's worth more than whatever they actually wanted Topps to give them at the time!

I remember it was an Asian pitcher he super collected I believe. He was freakin’ furious lol.
Why is everybody convinced its Freeman? Because he leads in fWAR? Betts leads in bWAR (by a lot) and his team had the best record in the majors.

I think Mookie’s WAR advantage comes from defense, Freeman has an advantage on offensive war 2.9 vs 2.4... Mookie has a 0.8 dWAR vs Freeman’s -0.3 dWAR. A lot of folks think that doesn’t pass the eye test, Freeman is constantly a top end 1B defender, but that’s like saying he’s the fastest offensive lineman, it’s a good thing but not essential.
But your point is valid, Mookie’s war is over 3, and should be in the conversation. But MVP voters, and fans, would have a hard time thinking Mookie should win when Freeman has better stats across the board (Mookie leads in SB by 8 and HR by 3, Freeman leads everything else R/RBI/H/Doubles/AVG/OBP/SLG/OPS)

Has there ever been two teammates possibly fighting it out for MVP like #1 and #2?

I like Freeman and think he’s got lots left to accomplish, but I’ve also been selling as the run up has been big. I’ve got a few left but the diamond and diamond cognacs sold very quickly.

He could get a HOF nod especially in the NL adopts a permanent DH after this season. I can see him doing double duty as 1B/DH to give him "off-days" later in his career by just being the DH

Expect to see a lot of returns if by chance he does not win MVP.
Not sure that Ozuna will steal votes. He was a full point lower in fWAR and DH'ed in 2/3 of the games. While Freeman was Fangraphs third best first baseman, even with the negative defensive WAR, which all first basemen had. Freeman's biggest battle will the Tatis and Betts popularity contest.

You must be using BR. Fangraphs has Freeman with a 3.4 fWAR, top position player in the majors, and Betts at 3.0 fWAR.
Freeman definitely passes the eye test on defense. The problem is, the stat heads only look at the metrics and see the negative numbers and assuming he's not good. The defensive metrics only account for range and throws and "making the play." They don't account for the things that make 1st basemen valuable. When a 1st baseman lays out on a stretch to save a bad throw, the shortstop gets all the credit for making the play.

It seems like the movement in pricing hasn’t hit his mid-high end rookies as hard. His base topps and chrome have seen a 3-4x increase in the last 6 weeks. But some of the numbered stuff that was in the 50-75 range a few months ago is still in that range. Curious for me that the movement seems really isolated to some of those lower prices, maybe an indicator that people aren’t all in at this point but the are seeing that there is good potential at these lower entry points.
