He's probably going to use the time off and have his elbow sharpened.

Where's Probert or McSorley to kick his fu*en #@#@#@? Somebody needs to plant a stick upside his jaw and he'll knock that sh*t off

The NHL's taking all of the hitting out of the game. Even 10 years ago, when you made a big hit, it was celebrated. Now, it's suspendable. Bettman needs to go. Bring in somebody who knows the game, like Brendan Shanahan. Now HE should be commish.

totally agree i mean if a guy can't be a life long cheap shot artist and elbow a defenseless guy in the head without getting suspended you might as well shut down the sport.

I highly doubt you have seen the "hit". There is still a ton of hitting, just not stupid ones that were never really legal. This hit would have gotten a suspension 10 years ago just as it did this time.

I'm not saying that it wouldn't have gotten a suspension, I'm just saying I doubt it would get up to 17 games. I have seen the hit many times on sportscentre, and to me it doesn't look like a 17 gamer. His hit on Marc Savard, maybe. But not an elbow to the head where there was no injury.

Elbows have no buisness being in the game. But don't suspend a role player 17 games for doing his job.

Wow.

Please explain.

Sure I'll explain.

Matt Cooke's role on the Pens is not to score goals, it's to be an agitator (he can score goals, but that's not why they have him). The league is suspending him based on his reputation, which is to be a tough guy.
I'm thinking back to 1975 (I know, way far back. I'm an old school fan), when the Flyers had all types of tough guys. Their best player and captain was a fighter. They win your team cups.

I support the agitators (like cooke, avery, carkner, ott), because although they only play 6 minutes a game, they get their job done.

That's just one hockey fans opinion. I've probably been brought to believe this theory because of being a leaf fan, and Brian Burke's obsession with tough guys.

Trust me. I'm a lifelong Bruins fan. I know all about the "tough guy" aspect of the game.

But Matt Cooke is NOT a tough guy, agitator type. This guy is clearly out there only to injure other players.

There are agitators who do it the right way and agitators who do it the wrong way. Matt Cooke just does not get it.

Sure I'll explain.

What I look at for criteria is the Bertuzzi incident. 10 years ago, 25 games. But with the strict rules on cheap shots the NHL has in effect, he would have gotten a lifetime ban at best, and I'd be willing to bet there would be a federal investigation and criminal charges.

I'll agree with you on this one. I do think he is fairly violent out on the ice.

I'm anxious to see what he does when he comes back. Break some guys neck, or start going a little easier on guys. But I still support my theory that the pens have him on their roster as a tough guy. I can't see why else Mario would keep him.
