They were listed on eBay for a brief time a few months ago. The owner has now consigned them to Heritage Auctions so they will definitely sell this time. Would have to imagine record prices for both. Will be interested to see if the OPC breaks the $2m mark.

The right-side of that OPC definitely doesn't look like a PSA-10. Do they grade it based on the best possible card that could have been produced at the time, or something to take in to account that OPC was notorious for their rough cut?? Seems like the printer was running low on ink or something too.

Totally agree with this! Even though the description below tries to excuse it with the high resolution picture.

Wow. Anyone holding onto a Gretzky rookie is going to love to watch these two auctions!

That's the OPC cut. PSA doesent deduct for that.
But its off center and probably not a psa10 in reality.

My PSA 5 has already more than doubled since I bought it in January. At the rate Gretzky RCs are climbing the card might put my daughter through college in 16 years time!

Why would you list both at the same time?

I'd rather have an OPC PSA 10 with a rough cut than without.

PSA 6 just sold for just over $3000usd
So a PSA 10 is worth millions? PSA 9 $500000?
Bitch, please
What idiot would pay that much?

Every card is only worth what someone is willing to pay.
And yes some deep pocketed rich dude is going to pay up for the only PSA 10 copy.

An OPC with perfect edges is probably trimmed. I too like the rough cut its part of the character of the late 70s OPC

They used metal wires in their cutting process with these- major flags if the edges aren't a rough cut

Why at the same time, it goes against every sense of supply and demand.
Oh look wanna buy my ultra rare card, ya I got two.

To someone looking to buy both because of that fact, sure. Otherwise I would have went Topps first of course, set a record then baam OPC ! The Topps buyer would almost have to buy the OPC no matter the price ;)
Truth is nothing even matters anymore in this economy, cards, real estate, shoes lol

Auction listing says Pop 2 for each.

Sorry, someone going to pay up for 1 of 2 copies.
Should have run the OPC first.... its record price will cause all others to run up with it.

I don't trust auction prices any longer.
That "10" is not a 10. The other 10, looks pretty nice from what I've seen.
If someone actually pays that much for this holder (not card) then they are an idiot.

Having opened a fair bit of wax back in 1979 I would say this is not entirely true. Yes, a majority of the cards had rough edges but some came out super clean. Whether they were cut early in the process or not I am not certain but there were definitely a percentage of cards that did not have rough edges.

I doubt the person capable of buying a 7 figure card is too hindered by timing. I think it was wise to do it this way. This buying doesn't need time to recoup money, if he has 1.2 he can swing 1.6.
