Recent threads have motivated me to get a thread going about the underappreciated world of vintage hockey.

Just curious if anyone has any favorite vintage cards. Not necessarily sets, but specific cards, depending on photo/artwork/etc.. Here are mine:

1933 OPC Eddie Shore
Great looking set. I used to own one of these in PSA 5. Not sure why I sold it. Love this card of the guy many call the Babe Ruth of Hockey.

1952 Parkhurst Terry Sawchuk
I just think its a cool drawing/painting... and ya know, legendary goalie and all.

1953 Parkhurst Maurice Richard
An absolute classic vintage card. Unfortunately, it appears that it is also one of the most trimmed vintage cards out there. Still, the horizontal action "shot" is sweet!

1953 Parkhurst Harry Lumley
I just love the picture.

1953 Parkhurst Eric Nesterenko
Another great action shot but this one is extra cool because Nesterenko played Rob Lowe's dad in Youngblood.

1954 Topps Gordie Howe
First year of Topps making hockey cards and an iconic card. Don't care that its his year 3 card, I would take this over any other. The card design is awesome.

1955 Parkhurst Jean Beliveau
Since his 1953 RC and 1954 cards both are lacking a face, I turn to the 1955 Parkie. Classic set too.

1957 Parkhurst Jacques Plante
The image is what makes me like this card more than his 1955 RC. Such a classic design and the drawing/painting has almost a Norman Rockwell painting feel to it.

1961 Parkhurst Jean Beliveau
Great looking set. Love the team logo background. The Sawchuk is also a great card from this set.

1967 Topps Bobby Orr
Awesome looking card. Buying a 2nd year card is the only way regular guy collectors like us can even get a foot in the door with vintage Orr.

1968 OPC Bobby Orr
Enter OPC back on the scene. Just always loved the look of this set and this card in particular. The Parent is also a great card from this set. This set is notoriously miscut so even remotely centered and straight-cut copies command a premium.

1971 OPC Ken Dryden RC
Might be my favorite card of all time. There used to be an absolute glut of available graded versions on eBay but COVID gonna COVID.

1976 OPC Bernie Parent
I am a huge Bernie Parent fan and am frustrated at the lack of good card photos of him wearing his iconic mask. This one I think is the best (or maybe the 74 All Star.)

1976 OPC Ken Dryden
From the same amazing 1976 set, I love the Dryden. I am a big fan of cool goalie masks and this one is a full frontal display.

1980 OPC Wayne Gretzky
Honestly, I've never cared for the '79 set. I think its pretty ugly. 1980 is great and far more affordable, although year 2 stuff seems to be rocketing up in price to the point where its above my comfort level.

1981 OPC Wayne Gretzky Super Action
This is tied with the '71 as my favorite hockey card of all time. Still semi-affordable at $25-30 for a centered ungraded copy if you look hard enough. I love the action photo and everything about this card. Very nostalgic as this is one of the first cards I remember collecting as a kid.

1986 OPC Patrick Roy
Last, the iconic RC of Patty. Such a great card. Great design, great photo, and becoming more and more unaffordable. Lol.

I really dig any of the vintage tobacco cards from 1910-1913.

As a set I think you’re right.
