I've been on the fringes of the basketball card market lately with prices skyrocketing but I figured I'd watch a box of 08-09 Topps Chrome on the Bay this week because hey, why not? It ended yesterday at over $1700!! Now I know basketball is hot, I know wax is hot, basketball wax is scorching, but that's a kings ransom! I figure the odds of recouping your money on that box at that price are astronomically low. But maybe I'm mistaken. Is a box of this nature worth said price? What's the best thing to do with said box.. rip it, sit on it and hopefully flip for an even higher price in the future? Just tryna wrap my head around the market and I figure the Blowout community can provide as much knowledge as any on the topic..

Opening boxes at today's prices is the worst form of gambling you can do unless you have money to blow and are doing it for fun or for a break. Another large reason for wax prices are the popularity of breaking. With so many breakers looking to offer their clients something rare and/or new prices continue to increase and people continue to pay $100 per spot for a chance to get a big card out of said box..

1) In my eyes this is one of the best sets ever made. The design is gorgeous and the photos are magnificent.

2) In my eyes it has 2 of the most iconic cards ever produced in modern basketball. Kobe Bryant's card, where LeBron is guarding him, and LeBron's card, where he is throwing chalk in the air pregame.

3) Westbrook Rookie year, Durant second year, & Rose Rookie year moves the needle some.

This set will only appreciate in price. PSA 10 base cards of LeBron and Kobe are $$$$. Refractors have gone nuts.

To tell you the truth, that 2008 toops chrome has a better value than a box of 2019/20 Panini anything.

Thanks for the feedback. Very true that their are some iconic cards in that set. And I must agree that it's prob a better rip than anything Panini has to offer. I wish Fleer were around and was the exclusive NBA manufacturer, I love their old card designs.
