How many times have you heard someone at a show, or a breaker, or just amongst your friends that say names of athletes incorrectly? Does it bother you? Does it not? idk...

the most common ones i hear that make me cringe

far and away my #1.....Bryon Russell i'd need one of those clickers for every time i've heard "jordan's shot on BYron russell" (its Brian) i could imagine the uproar if i started calling Byron scott Brian scott.

Giannis (its yahnnis) i all too often hear G-annis

Jonas Valanciunas (its yonas valanchewniss) many refer to him as a Jonas brother

Deron Williams (its darrin) when i was a huge fan i would cringe often at Da ron Williams

just a few off the top of my head, and maybe i'm the hypocrit here, so i would like to educate myself if maybe i'm missing something on a name, please share.

Dirk for sure as far prominent stars go. It's not even the common fan that annoys it's announcers, color commentators, studio people. It's not NERWISKI or NORWISKI

Reggie Miller also used to aggravate me with J.J. Barea calling him J.J. Barrera

This is my favorite of all-time (although, Nick, you got some really good ones). But I smile every time that thread is bumped. Literally, makes my day.

I also like when people call it "the Nationals" when referring to the National.

It's the little things in life that get us by, and these are the little things that get me by. On a separate, unrelated, note. I saw a guy driving a cherry red BMW with a cell phone in each hand. I pulled up next to him at the light, rolled down my window, and said, "well played, sir, well played"...….

Again, it's the little things...……..

Some of these are laziness by the announcer but to be fair, most of these are foreign names so i can see how those get messed up, or they're just weird spellings for common names. "Bryon"..obviously that looks more like the name Byron than Brian and if he didn't become legendary for the MJ shot this wouldn't be a thing. "Deron" Williams, but say it like DARRIN, not like how it looks..give me a break, just make your name Darrin if that's how you want it to be pronounced haha. D -E -R -O- N lends itself more naturally to different pronunciations besides DARRIN

Mine isn't regarding pronunciations, but I can't be the only one who doesn't believe LaMelo should be called "Melo" right? I understand that his IG tag is @melo, but come on. As far as I'm concerned, there's only one "Melo" in the league and that's Carmelo.

Seriously though, if these YouTuber's don't know how to pronounce Luka's name at this point, why are they even touching basketball cards? You would think they've at least seen some highlights, or maybe even caught one of the many nationally televised Mavs games. I mean - the guy is all over sports media. Just baffles me lol

Also, I'll add don-sick to the list of mispronunciations of his name.

lol it's painful to hear that guy talk sometimes, but if he's getting people into the hobby then I can't complain. I'm with you on that though, it's almost as if they've never actually watched a game and are going by stats alone.

so this all started during the beginning of the pandemic when the last dance was about to air and everyone was making money hand over fist on jordan base, then the lebron prizm base trend started modern day base. some dude whether he was talking into his phone to type or something said BASS cards obviously by mistake, and people ran with it. I think the guy who made it popular as a joke was ninjacookies, that dude seriously could do stand up comedy based on his appropriate and topical responses to things. So i don't think anyone is stupid enough to think its actually bass, but its become a mainstay inside joke among the board members here.

Tyler Herro is pronounced "hero", not "heh-row"

Between him and Giannis, why do people mispronounce MVP (or soon to be MVP) names so frequently?
