I have been out of collecting cards for 3-4 years, and thinking about getting back into it. First of all, I’ve noticed the prices of the blaster boxes and mega boxes are even up there in price compared to a few years ago. And hobby boxes are almost $200 + on everything haha.
Looking for suggestions on what boxes or packs I should look at asking for as Christmas ideas or possibly buy myself to get started. What would be the best bang for my buck? What are your favorite looking cards and best parallel/insert designs?
Any suggestions and why would be appreciated. Also any good deals with links would also be appreciated as I’m trying to find best deals.

Best bang for your buck by far is to buy singles. Not exciting I know but the price of boxes now are outrageous.
Best bang for your buck is probably in singles vs opening fresh stuff in 2020.
First figure out what kind of card buyer you are. Collector? Investor? Bit of both?
What helped me when I got back into cards, I checked out all the products:
https://www.beckett.com/news/2020-football-cards-release-dates-checklists/
Check out the tab ‘Already Released’. This will give you an idea of what stuff looks like these days, and having a good look at stuff will help find your niche whether that’s high end, chromium cards, bit of everything, etc.
There’s also the big brands which are Prizm, Optic, and Select with Mosaic seeming to be pretty well received too as far as chromium stuff. For Rookie Patch Autos, National Treasures gets the big love, but costs big money.
Hope my $0.05 helps!

You are looking at re-entering the hobby at a time when everything is priced to the moon. You will receive more value buying singles, but you are still hardly receiving a good deal.

Well, with 2 kids...I have a limited amount to put into the hobby...so I guess that will help keep my spending to good deals or the enjoyment of attending card shows for singles. I appreciate the feedback so far and, boxes were not worth it a few years ago and astronomical now. I may get a few fat packs to fulfill the opening itch.

Buy them from Blowout. Youll never find anything at Target or Walmart.

The hobby is probably the only area where "Hot Singles in Your Area" is the only way to not get scammed.

Think of your kids! Don't buy the Poopnini!

Pick up a complete set from Donruss. Reasonable in price on the secondary market, sometimes can be found at the local stores, and you get every card + photo variation in the set!
Also sorry about all the douchey responses that you've received. Hope you have fun diving back in!

The sad thing, those weren't actually douchey responses.
This is literally the worst time to dive and start buying wax. It's the equivalent of deciding that you wanted to buy gold in late 2008. Most years 90% of what you busted would go down in value. This year it's like 99.999%.
Boxes that would normally go for $175-300 are now $800-1500.
The absolute smartest move would be to sell most of whatever you still have (you'll probably never get more for it than right now) and save those funds for a year or two from now when the sneaker heads are gone and the tide has crested.

I mean, wax was overpriced then as well. The entire point here is that now it's even more ridiculously overpriced.

I can see I'm talking to Panini's target audience here.

The Bot programs have advanced as well....wipes out literally every eCommerce and online retail option. Sports cards were just a small piece of botland. Try and buy a Xbox or PS5 right now. Same scenario & its just as terrible.

2020 Chronicles Football draft is a great, fun break with lots of variety, inserts & colored parallels. Prices are still not too much above MSRP for retail mega boxes, blasters & fat packs & deals can be found on these on eBay, Facebook, Blowout, Dacaworld, etc. if you're patient. Hobby boxes are a tad over $200, same for 2019 Chronicles which has last year's RC class (Kyler Murray & Co.) in pro NFL jerseys vs. collegiate.

Best bang for the bucks are Mosaic, or Prizm retail boxes, if you can find them. If you can't find it, player break, or team break maybe the best bang for the buck. If I have to force to buy a box, I would go with Mosaic and Prizm because you can grade base cards and get some value back. If you lucky, your graded cards overpays your box, or boxes.

I found a 2020 donruss 30 card pack at 5 below yesterday. Was there for cheap kiddo presents, but found that hanging by chance. Didn't hit anything noteworthy but it was a fun rip on the cheap. Cards were pretty nice too for price. I could possibly nickel and dime my money back on the blues and canvas card, so it didn't feel like a waste. Even found a card my nephew would like.

No, actually not. But its just a fact. It could easily be more expensive in two years.
