View Full Version : Another Dealing with a Card Company Resolved

Another tale of my dealings with card companies. This time Topps. I’m happy with this outcome now. Although when I pulled it the Dominguez was selling for more.

So I pulled a Jasson Dominguez Speckle Auto 46/99 out of Bowman Sterling. Two pack had most of the cards inside creased. I sent them all back in. This was August 20th. It’s normally supposed to take 2-4 weeks to replace cards from same year products. I never received a confirmation email that they received it. Although my tracking said someone picked it up at the post office August 24th. Fast forward to last week I still haven’t heard anything. 12-13 weeks, nothing. I thought this was gone. So I called Topps customer support one more time right at 9am and a nice lady named Minerva said she will work on this. 2 days later I received confirmation that they had my return. So great to know they had it.

Now, I’m sitting on my couch 2 days after that and Fedex just delivered my replacement for the cards LOL. Monday talked to support. Wednesday confirmed they had the return. Friday received the replacements. All in one week after waiting 13 weeks.

They were able to send back all the cards I returned except the Dominguez. They had a letter in the package that it was unavailable for replacement. So here’s a pic of the Dominguez. Pretty happy overall considering I thought I was getting nothing and they were gone.

Other cards replaced. Same cards returned.

Then, they must have felt bad I had to wait so long, they gave me a free mini box. Had a Volpe die cut auto and a Bichette Rc.

Pretty happy. Thanks Topps! I know it’s different for some people, but my dealing with Topps was better than mine with Panini.

Damn, nice return. How bad was the damage on the Jasson? Can't tell from the pic.

Enough to annoy the sh*t out of me. Definitely not as bad as the other cards, but I figured since I was sending them all in I might as well. It’s worse on the back. Pic doesn’t do the damage justice.

You just received a low number auto of a future Hall of Fame player who is a hobby darling for a /99 auto of an unknown (career wise) that will more than likely be worth $15 in 10 years. PLUS a free pack!?

You killed it.

Great for him, not so good for all the people that bought the product.

Because that's a card that should have been packed out.

Makes you wonder how many other high-value cards that are supposed to be in products and packed out are instead held back....

More than you can imagine....but there’s plenty to go around or we wouldn't get equivalent replacements. Unlike Panini who would have sent a sticker of 1/3 value.

Wow, the Trout would have been more than enough (to me at least) plus they throw in an Adley. Very nice.

I hit a Dominguez auto in a mega this summer . I’d snap call the opportunity to trade that experience for pulling an on card Trout .

My theory is that they hold back a couple cases of each product and use the cards in those cases for replacements. It's not like they deliberately hold back a Mike Trout every product nor they need to.

I think it's a lot worse than that.....I wouldn't be surprised to discover that in some cases only a fraction of the numbered autos actually get packed out.

Just one example would be the 1984 "Throwback" Rickey Henderson auto from 2019 Flagship. I've seen a couple of gold #/50 versions, but that's it. So I'm guessing that 30-40 of the original 50 never were packed out, and instead were held back for a product like Archives Signature Series or to be used to replace expired redemptions.

Nice man, I sent in a Jesus Luzardo Gold Refractor RC and two other refractors that were damaged. In return I got that letter and a Jose Berrios Gold and two base cards. Haha. Topps is lovely.

That is fantastic. A friend of mine sent in a scratched to all hell Bowman Chrome Bayron Lora auto /25 and received a David Ortiz Clearly auto as a replacement and 3 retail packs... He spoke with someone in CS before sending the card in and got their word that they would reach back out to him to let him choose to receive the original Lora back or take the replacement. No contact to let him choose before sending it back. What a nightmare for him! He was able to talk with a manager at Topps after that fiasco and they are now working with him to try and help cover the gap in value between the original Lora and the Ortiz. Just a warning for those who send in high value cards for replacement. Be wary.

I sent in a long note with it as well as printed out eBay comps for the Dominguez.

The printed out eBay comps is a brilliant idea. I will have to remember that if I ever need to send in a higher value damaged card. Thanks so much for sharing!

Great move. I told my friend to do the same and he must have gotten someone who wasn't in a good mood that day. Such is life, I suppose. At least they are trying to rectify the situation with him now. I'm glad you got some great cards in return!

Nah, it's just a rare card in a heavily printed product. You not seeing on the open market doesn't mean it wasn't inserted in the product.

Also Archives Sig Series are buyback cards signed after the fact, they don't use old autos for it.
