The Rangers will also be receiving a second pitching prospect in the deal.

Unfortunate to see Lynn back in the central as a Twins fan. Sox address a huge need in a big way. That said, Lynn is only under control through 2021 and Dunning looks like at least a decent to solid starter under control for years

It’s a great move by the Sox, at least for ‘21.

I was thinking the Jays should be aggressive on that front, but Dunning was a probably a tough price to beat.

get him and Bryan Shaw together for the ultimate "looks like a dad" pitching combo.

As a Sox fan, I don’t like it. This is what happens when you root for a team that has a cheapskate owner. Trade promising young players with a lot of team control for a rental.

I’m glad the Jays didn’t bite. Shapiro is all about team control, which is why I don’t think they get Lindor without an extension or trading the farm for Arenado (I can’t imagine any team that would...that opt out makes it a bad deal).

The Sox gave up a lot for rental.

Now go get a #4 SP (Quintana?), a lefty bat RF (Eaton/Pedersen), a closer (Colome/Hendriks) and a backup catcher (Suzuki?).

*I hope they stay away from Schwarber and let Vaughn be the DH.

Such a bummer. I was one of his catchers in college, and he was a great ticket hookup here in Dallas lol. He's had one hell of a career.

A trade? I thought Baseball players just get cut, waived, DFA’d, or straight up sold for “slot money” and/or re-signed these days.

Pretty sure you have that backwards. Lynn making $9.33M this year. Dunning wouldn't have made that combined over the next 3-4 years.

He won’t opt out. The market post Covid AND post future lockout will be brutal

Agree. I don't see ANYBODY getting a huge FA deal anytime soon.

SO now what do I do with the boxes upon boxes of 2020 Bowman chrome Dane Dunning cards (as well as all the others random cards in my collection) from all the large breaks here? I'm talking 100+ cases of breaks.

His outlook hasn't changed. I don't see why your plan would change with this news.

I agree with you, but Im thinking his point was Trade controllable Prospects for Washed up Vet instead of Keeping Prospects and PAying for Bauer.

The White Sox arent Cheap, they just wont spend 200m like the Top 5 clubs.

A rental who could them over the hump in ‘21. This is a pretty formidable rotation:

Giolito
Keuchel
Lynn
Cease
Kopech

The White Sox and Jays are pretty similar teams—ascending at the same time, both with lots of offensive talent but needing to shore up their pitching to become serious contenders.

I think the Sox did what they needed to do. Especially for a team on the rise, Lynn is the kind of player who can win big games and help establish the Sox as a power. The Jays still need that boost. (Sonny Gray!)

Plan is I’m a White Sox fan not a prospector. Got them because cheap spots and was a White Sox player.

I feel your pain. I have his Topps now auto from the postseason sets still coming. I bit the bullet to get four sets and guarantee the Robert, and I justified that with “all four these guys will be here a while!”

This feels like a good move for the Sox, although that's a lot to give up in Dunning. My first inclination is that Lynn is unlikely to repeat his 2019/2020 success...but then I remember that I could probably put together a respectable stat line pitching to the AL Central.

Dunning is a pretty steep price, but Lynn is a solid starter.

I like the trade. Is Dunning that steep of a price? We still have Kopech, Kelley and Steivers in the minors for RHP and Crochet for LHP. Also like the Eaton signing although I would have preferred Brantley or Springer. Now we need a closer and maybe another reliever.

Dunning really isn’t a steep price to pay.

Glad I wasn’t the only one who thought that. Dunning might develop into an eventual lance lynn. While they may not be in their peak years of their core young guys yet I’d argue this will make them a WS contender in 2021. I like the deal.

I like this for both teams. Lynn doesn't put the Sox over the top, but he should help. Rangers get a solid return for 1 year of a very cheap contract.

They're going for it. They made vet moves like Grandal, Keuchel, and Edwin last year, brought in La Russa, and they have rotation depth problems. Depends how much you believe in Dunning, IMO. Lynn's worth a good amount, in part because of how cheap he is.

It’s like a deadline deal—except they aren’t waiting ‘til late July to make a push.
