Base cards for sell ?? Honest question here: When someone wants to know if someone will sell worthless base cards, am I same to assume that person is trying to collect the whole set?

I have 5 5000 ct boxes of “worthless” draft/chrome base. A few years go by end quite a few end up being worth plenty. 🤷#@♂️

Maybe... but many will buy entire cases of base to put together player lots or grade in bulk by picking out the best. Then sell when player X gets hyped or gets hot during the season. Draft is a great product to do this. It’s definitely a grind, though.
Buy the base at less than a nickel per and sell for a quarter -$1 per at the right time is easy money.
And if a player or 5 really break out, some good money can be had.

That is some serious volume flipping. Didn't realize people would do that. Thanks.

And it’s a long term play, too. Sometimes it takes a few years for $ to be realized from buying bulk base.

Yep. if you bulk bought 2016 bowman base, 2017 bowman base, 2014 bowman base, you would be a rich man from all the Tatis/Vladdy/Acuna/Betts

That’s assuming they all graded high and had buyers? Or am I missing something, again. Probably. Trying to put my thumb on base cards = significant $$.

Depends on when they sold in bulk. My guess is a lot of those that do this, sell at the first sign of any hype and don’t hold for the real profit that was to come later on.

You might be overthinking this. Base cards = $$ because they sell for $$. Take a look at 2016 Tatis base chrome. Raw (with virtually no gem chance at this point) sell for $85 and PSA 10 > $500. I'd guess you could've bought them in bulk for a couple bucks a piece in 2016. That's a margin somewhere in the 10,000's %.

Ok this is the type of example that ties all this base value talk together. Makes sense. Had no idea base, non-numbered, non-graded cards of anyone could be valuable these days.

Just an example. I busted 16 boxes of 2016 Bowman at $68 per box, a little over $1k. Hit some solid cards but let’s just talk base. I sold 11 raw Vlad chromes on here last year-ish for $500. Sold a bunch of Tatis for 50-75 and have a couple PSA 10’s and a 9. That’s well over what I paid for all the boxes just in base cards of 2 players. I know, 2016 Bowman was solid but it’s not uncommon 3-5 years down the road to make good $ on base 1st chromes. Just takes one guy to “pop”. Side note - remember the days of $60-70 boxes of Bowman products???
I remember buying draft for $40 around 2015. My LCS was desperate to get rid off. Now he won't trouble selling at 10x cost.

Ok... safe to say I will be taking care of the base cards in the boxes I'm opening today. Thanks guys.

I looked into doing this too some time ago, but agreed with others that it can get hard to realize when the hype is without constantly reviewing ebay sales...
I just have one question for those that do this, what do you do with the players that never "Pop"? As in they are a career minor league player, are close to 30 or in their 30s when they get to the Show. Is there a point in which you dump all those players or just keep everything until they retire (if they haven't made the show)?

2014 Draft as ugly as it is now was fantastic making money on the base side for me!
The cases were dirt cheap. I bought entire cases of base for < $100. My Judge, Bryant, Correa (Just Top Prospect card lots sold for $250+ per lot). Then I was left with major lots of Trea Turner, Eloy, and several other 1st bowman players worth a lot of money

I actually go through all my base chrome and base that i have a few times a year - and constantly pull out the names I have heard of from following threads and just being aware.
I have had lots of cards over time spike - for example kyle lewis this year, shane bieber this year but had been nearly worthless for a year or 2 and then this summer was dumping chrome ref and base for 10-20 bucks a pop.

That makes sense... now what about the non-1st cards? What do you do with those, sell them in lots once you are done opening up?
Granted I opened some Bowman in the past and was able to sell Yordan Prospect cards for a decent amount.
