Searched a few keywords and didn't see one started. Anyone care to share their baseball card collecting goals for next year?

Here are mine:

Darin Erstad
+ Find the 2003 Sweet Spot Bat Barrel I am missing /4, I have the other 3.
+ Add another laundry tag
+ Add another button card
+ Add another barrel card
+ Find another game jersey
+ Of the 153 non 1/1 I am missing, I'd love to knock off 30 of those.
+ Of the 290 1/1 I am missing, pick up 12 or more.

Bucky Jacobsen
+ Missing only 4 non 1/1 cards. Would love to track down 2. On the list are a pair of /25 parallels and a retail parallel. "Common" stuff but elusive.
+ Of the 34 1/1 I am missing, add 6.

Aaron Kurcz
+ Add a game jersey
+ Finish off the IP auto's. I'd need to grab some extras and message him, then be finished with this run.
+ Find this card: 2011 Bowman Draft Prospect Autographs Red #AK Aaron Kurcz /25
+ Missing 6 1/1 and the above Red auto and I'll have everything.

Will Clark
+ Add an interesting game used item. I've got jerseys, a bat, batting helmet, batting gloves, etc
+ Move the rest of my PSA and BGS graded cards. I've got 100s.
+ Add a "keeper" type of card (laundry tag, barrel, etc).
+ Liquidate more singles I have to other Clark collectors
+ Add more 1987 Topps Tiffany rookies. I'm at around 500

Eddie Murray
+ Add a game bat. Have a hat and an Indians road jersey from 1995.
+ Add a "keeper" type of card (laundry tag, barrel, etc).
+ Liquidate more singles I have to other Murray collectors
+ Move the rest of my PSA and BGS graded cards. I've got 100s. Unsure about the 1978 PSA 9 though.

Cards with my son (age 6)
+ Open some packs together (if we can find any, LOL)
+ He loves Mike Trout (good taste, kid). Find something unique for him to keep.

1.) Not buy a grip of cards that I don't really want (sold just about everything to recalibrate from a growing hoarders mentality).
2.) Commission a custom Project 2020 Derek Jeter frame
3.) Finish the Basic Aaron Judge Basic Set
4.) Save 2x as much as I spend

Finish my 1973 Topps set, about 50% currently. Already have the Mike Schmidt RC, but still need all but a handful of the hi #s and most of the HOFers.

Might try to causally make some progress on my 1972 set, but will probably get distracted by the 2021 flagship set.

My #1 goal is to finish my Koufax project I started Nov, 2019 to collect PSA graded well centered topps issued cards from his playing day. These include the leader cards and both the gray and white 56. I have 22/30 and the challenge is finding ones with the eye appeal I want.

Now I know I will never be done as I will always look to find and upgrade but I’m in a good spot. I would consider it completed once I add the last 8 and then it’s just maintenance mode and for the final piece I would upgrade the 1955.

I want to get my 250 plus cards back from PSA... Seriously though I want to get every HOF rookie and first solo card from 1970 to 1989 in a PSA holder. After that I will start to expand to get other HOF rookies and slowly improve my grades. Vintage may be in my future as well. Modern is not happening at these crazy prices and higher print runs.

My main goals are:

1. to continue scanning my collection. I'm trying to scan my entire collection and I'm about half way there. I don't think I'll finish in 2021, but hopefully get close.

2. Sell more, especially basketball

3. Grade more. I finally graded a couple of cards in 2020 for the first time. I'd like to grade more. As much as I'm a detractor to grading, it increases the value of cards I want to sell.

4. Buy less wax and buy more singles.

Always love yearly goal threads.

For me,

1. Maintain my 4 player collections as best I can. Budgetary restraints may constrict in 2021 so my days of landing super 1/1's could be over sooner than later, but I always adapt and will find singles to add depending on product selection and visual appeal.

2. May nearly axe group and personal breaks. With a tighter budget, I may take a monthly approach and if near the end of a month I didn't find much singles, I will re-allocate funds to a personal break within reason to scratch the itch that never goes away completely. I love group breaks but spending several hundred to 1k and getting just about no keepers more often than not is just not fair to me and collection. Can't waste that much when it could be utilized for singles at any moment.

3. Won't set card total goals for my PCs. Will always depend on what's available for sale within reason.

4. Maybe at some point next year will submit my Acuna Jr PC to Beckett mag for a super collector article. I know nobody reads the mags anymore but it's still a keepsake for my parents after my battle with CF is over.

5. Not a hobby goal but find a way to watch more games, especially of course the teams with my PC players. Life is short as most people have learned this year and got to find a joy in everyday life to focus on so I don't get total anxiety over my prognosis. Last couple years have been rough for my health outside of the virus worries for my family.

1. Finish organizing my collection with scans and figure out best way to compile resulting images.

2. Get Jeter run and Matt Taylor run of Project 2020 cards into frames.

3. Keep working on Deivi Garcia 2020 Bowman rainbow (have all paper, chrome, mega, 1st Edition and sapphires besides Reds, 1/1s and 1st Edition Gold)

4. Cut down on ripping wax. I have the worst luck. Enjoy the rip so much but after I’m finished feel defeated. I’m not a rich man. I should use my resources better.

5. Start selling. I’m 18 months back into the hobby and have yet to sell one card. Need to learn about best methods to ship and decide whether to grade

6. Attend The National if only to meet and thank some of those on BO and YouTube who have helped teach me about the hobby

7. Continue to have fun

For baseball (I collect all 4 sports), I want to make some headway on my Top 100 MLB players of all time Autos. My goal is to create a museum like wall display and display them in low light.

I am about 25% there. I have no idea what I am going to do for Ruth and a couple others. I may have to go game used instead for them as I can't afford those monsters.

Good luck with all of your goals in 2021 and let me know if you have any of the following autos for good prices.

Babe Ruth

Here's what I'd like to do in 2021:

Complete at least ONE Tyler Freeman rainbow which means a super will have to pop up at some time.

I'd like to get one of each Ripken rookie. I put Ripken on the back burner after selling off my collection a number of years ago. Now I want to collect cards from his playing years...nothing newer.

I want one sealed box set collection of Topps S1 + S2 dating back to '85 (birth year). Another easy task if I'm willing to spend the money. Hoping to find stuff local...cut out shipping...maybe trade something of relevance for that dusty box in someone's closet.

Buy fewer boxes...take fewer risks...be a little more methodical. I've NEVER had any luck when opening up wax so I should be old enough to have that figured out by now, haha.

Thanks. I'm pretty far along, about 93% complete for everything non-1/1.

Shortly after 1996 SP released, I began to help his sister and mom chase 1 of each of his cards. They were super cool to me and very generous. One Thanksgiving, his sister asked if I wanted anything signed. I gave her a ball and a card. She brought back a massive box of stuff for me. About 80-100 items signed. Really cool. Had a chance to meet him but couldn't miss a college class presentation :(

It’s my understanding that with eBay managed payments, you pay approx 13% PLUS a .30 transaction fee ON TOP of all other fees so even shipping in the new PWE tracking doesn’t leave much money for sellers. Not sure how financially beneficial the new PWE system is going to be for sellers.

The point is that you don’t have PayPal or other fees. The only other fees would be if you have to pay for insertion for going over 200 items/month, or if an item is sold to a non US buyer. $1 shipping would save about 40 cents an item, since seller pays fees on the cheapest shipping price they offer. And it should raise prices for $3-$10 cards.

I'd be after TTM of players in my signature if it's something I don't already have.

I don't ttm. It's too much effort and I'm never going to find those guys.

Put together Cubs team set S1,S2, and Update
Find Julius Erving vintage
Find Walter Payton vintage

Sell everything else. Have bought a few collections over the years and it's time to clean out while the market is hot.

This thread is more like New Year's resolutions than goals.
1. Fill in blanks in PSA 8 or better RCs of HOF players I actual got to see play set. Only doing Writer vote-ins 99 onward.
2. Fill in blanks of on card autos of same players.
3. Get Braves cards.
4. Pick up random inserts I like.

1. Reach 90% on my 2019 Topps Foilboard /162 set build (at 34% now).
2. Pick up a 2014 Matt Chapman BC Green Auto

Looking forward to finally hitting some card shows again as well the $1 shipping on eBay.

Sorting & Organizing
- create updated eBay/COMC saved searches for vintage, high #, and SSP needs
- create list of vintage cards requiring upgrades
- research/track prices on higher-end Mantles, Berra, etc
- research grading/vintage condition
- reorganize my albums, purchase UltraPro sleeves for pages
- reorganize my spreadsheets/site and hopefully consolidate to one real-time list

1952-1979 Topps Yankees
- trade/sell some of my Yankee autograph towards vintage needs
- pick up 1970 Munson PSA slabbed rookie
- add 25 cards (of about 100 remaining)

1980-now Topps Yankees
- focus on crossing off easy sealed team sets and oddball needs from last 20 years
- add 25 SP from recent years
- add 2021 base team set

Yankees Topps/Bowman Heritage
- add 10 SP/SSP from prior years
- add 2020 & 2021 base team sets

Paul O'Neill collection

My #1 goal is to finish my Koufax project I started Nov, 2019 to collect PSA graded well centered topps issued cards from his playing day. These include the leader cards and both the gray and white 56. I have 22/30 and the challenge is finding ones with the eye appeal I want.

Now I know I will never be done as I will always look to find and upgrade but I’m in a good spot. I would consider it completed once I add the last 8 and then it’s just maintenance mode and for the final piece I would upgrade the 1955.

I picked up a couple cards that spent over 20 years on my wantlist in 2020, so in 2021 I just have one that I really want:

The David Justice 1992 Star Co Ad card. Only saw it once on eBay, someone probably has a stack of these tucked away somewhere and I just want one of them!

My 2021 Goal is, hopefully, the culmination of my 2020 goal...

SELL, SELL, SELL

My collection had grown out of control. My basement rec room was overtaken by cards... six months ago, you'd never know there was an actual pool table in there! My addiction to the PSA Registry (the last 5-10 years) was borderline unhealthy. My lust for the "big" hit had become insatiable and my appreciation for something nice, but maybe not valuable, had become basically null & void. My collection became mass, and morphed into something that resembled little purpose, meaning and organization!

I started 2020 with somewhere between 1200-1300 PSA graded cards and vowed to get that number to 800 or less. That was the hardest goal to keep. It involved selling in whole, or in parts, some Registry sets I'd spent years (some over a decade) building. Today, I stand at 710 cards and should easily get that number under 700 by years end. In 2021, I hope to realize my ultimate goal of getting that number to 350 or less. My Registry sets that I plan to keep going forward, today, account for 242 cards... and I'd like to limit my non-set personal collection to 100 cards or less... So, roughly, 350 cards!

The one saving grace to my personal struggle with moving away from my Set Registry addiction, has been the constant increasing of PSA submission pricing combined with a near continuous & growing delay in turnaround times. When you can no longer get your fix in a cost-effective and timely manner... the addiction becomes much easier to break!

But, I guess I just have an addictive personality. As that addiction has waned over the past 2 to 2.5 years, it's less so that it went away, and more so that it simply shifted to buying into online group breaks and collecting (err, hoarding) more raw cards! That, if anything, is really what has put my collection in an unmanageable, growing state! What started out as buying what I liked (Packers, Cubs, Bulls)... morphed into buying those and taking the occasional gamble on a big name hit... which then morphed into buying those teams if I liked the product, but mostly I was buying to chase "the" hits!

I amassed quite a collection that, in all honesty, meant/means very little to me and what I really like to collect. I've spent most of 2020 selling it all off. I still buy into breaks. I still buy, probably, more than I should, but the rising prices of wax this year has forced me to cut back on the chase. So, if there was one good thing about rising wax costs... it forced me to save me, from myself! In 2021, I'd like to sell off everything else, and like with my graded cards, keep myself to no more than 100 raw cards for my personal collection. This one will be tough... but I believe I can do it!

Good luck to all with your 2021 hobby goals!!!

I think I have mentioned this before but a PSA HOF collector that I am close with has said several times that the PSA Set Registry was a psychological stroke of genius for people with addictive tendencies.

It's quite literally how I went from the Derek Jeter Rookie Set (8 cards) to the Basic Topps (23), to Basic Set (176 cards) (I added about 17 to it) to Basic & Collectors (688 cards) in a little over two years.

Any particular reason why you're shifting from retail to exclusively hobby? I'm still more focused on retail but sprinkle in hobby unopened where I think it makes sense. I just think it's hard to beat the most popular retail releases at MSRP. Hobby just seems like so much more of a speculative bet these days at the prices you have to pay.

Should still do fine long-term provided the market holds up with hobby as long as the specific rookie class doesn't bust. But, it's nice with the popular retail releases already starting off way ahead if you get it at MSRP.

I've really been thinking long and hard about this and it's a long winded answer so hear me out!;)

I'm just starting to get overwhelmed with unopened, and I need to "trim the fat". I did it with my comics about 5 years ago. (went from about 3k books down to about 100 higher quality CGC graded books)

I just think: why have 20 donruss 2018 BSKB hangers when I can sell those, free up some space, and get a 2018 donruss hobby box? (or another 2018 hobby box) Or maybe really go crazy and sell alot of retail and buy something big like a 2012 prizm BSKB box, which I think will be a "holy grail" in 10-15 years.

food for thought, and I would love to hear yours and others opinions.

I would not sell my retail and buy speculation boxes, only on iconic boxes like 2012 prizm BSKB, 2017 prizm FB, 2018 baseball update, etc....

edit: I am still buying new retail when I can find it!

I hear you man. Really a quality over quantity thing and I understand that. Space is a BIG consideration when you do this so makes sense to do an approach that doesn't require as big of a footprint.

I was starting to run out of space and was on the verge of needing to change my approach until my wife relented and said I could store stuff in the basement. That opened up a whole new world of options though it will take an eternity to fill now that it's so hard to find new stuff both online and in-store. LOL But, still glad to have some flexibility.

BTW, I am with you on 2012 Prizm BKB being iconic. I'm sitting on one of those hobby boxes. I need to find a really nice acrylic display box to properly store it in. It's not enough to just sit it on a shelf...feels a bit naked.

I've been thinking long and hard about it for several months and have decided to slowly start the process in a few weeks. I've already sold about 5k worth of product in the last 4 months to see if I was mentally ready to do it.

I expect it to take at least 1-2 years if I want to get reasonable return.

The hardest part will be deciding what hobby to buy.

first world problems and I'm certainly not complaining!!!!!:)

Ginter Goals:

1. Finish three modern year sets.
2. Add 10 of the 1890 N30s.
3. Add 10 of the 1890 N44s.

'90s Insert Set Goals:

Finish fifteen sets.

Jeff Frye

- No movement on this front sadly.

Ryan Helsley

- I already met my goal of adding 5 from the non 1/1 list with these so my goal for the rest of the year is to add 5 more. That should prove interesting because I only need 11 non 1/1s total.

'90s Insert Set Goals:

Finish fifteen sets.

- I've done this one and more. I was at 47 finished sets at last count so far this year. I've probably added 100 sets to my wishlist too though lol.

Other Set Goals:
1994 Upper Deck The American Epic
1. BC1 - Mickey Mantle Bonus Card - Only one I need to finish the master set

- This one is done. I finally bit the bullet and just snagged one that had been overpriced on eBay forever.

Go over the 100,000 card mark in my collection.

I should have made mine loftier. Here it is the end of April only and I already have a little over 102,505 cards in my collection.
