I was hoping the board could offer some clarification regarding an issue I read here on Blowout.
Has anyone experienced an issues with degradation of on-card, or sticker, autographs after having been stored in Ultra Pro one-touch holders for an extended period of time??
I'm referencing the standard type of cards; in my purview Rittenhouse Bond cards, Sky Box/Rittenhouse Star Trek cards, etc. I've bought the standard 35 point one-touches and I'm quite pleased with how they present. I just don't want to encounter an issue 10 years down the road.
Any insight you could provide would be very much appreciated.

That's news to me. I would think that light would be the main culprit in most instances of autos fading on a card or sticker.

Where did you read about there being an issue?

Admittedly, the thread is dated:

Barring any environmental abnormalities, I’d just like to know I’m doing the right thing. Maybe 55 pt cases over 35?

Right here. Plus make sure the holder is not too small.
Of course, some autos will bleed/fade no matter what since some companies are still learning that ink+surface matters. But light is what kills you!

If it's a higher end card, I usually put a penny sleeve in-between the cover and the card. Not sure of the benefits but was suggested to do so by a toploader salesman years back.

I used to use the recessed screw downs for autos but changed to one touch magnetics because they *apparently* offer UV protection. Also standard auto cards in a 35 pt still slide around a bit in the holder so I wouldnt be too worried about the auto being in contact with the surface of the holder to a point where it would stick.

Sunlight as well as artificial light will 100% fade autographs regardless of what they’re stored in, even behind UV glass or acrylic.
As for the autograph cards being damaged beyond just fading, there may be the possibility that the signatures can get stuck to the plastic if pressed up right against it. I have not seen this happen personally though.

Moisture would likely be the culprit if this is the case.

There’s naturally even a little bit of moisture in the air though, right? I wonder if also having the one touch in a team bag would prevent this from being a possibility.
I know when getting autographed photos framed, you never want the piece pressed up directly against the glass for this same reason.

The holder has nothing to do with it.. if you leave an autograph to constantly be exposed to light(natural or artificial), it's going to degrade over time. Stating that the holder causes it is fairly ignorant.
By the way, the term ignorant isn't directed ay any one person, also it's not an insult, simply means 'without knowledge'.

Had a friend who found this out the hard way.
For what its worth, I was using Ultra Pro 1 screw holders since about 2000. Put plenty of on card and on sticker autos in them.
Zero issues with anything after 2 decades being stored like that.
As others have said, it is more your environment than anything.
I kept all of mine in large Craftsman tool cases, stored in a dry cool basement.

Anybody know about slabbed cards from PSA/BGS/CGC?
Do those slabs prevent UV?
Just wondering.

UV is just part of the equation. Light in general will fade ink signatures regardless.
The only pens that will not fade from natural and artificial light are paint pens, which the card companies do not use.
