Yes, just bought one actually. A Winchester 26 gun. Make sure to get one that is fire resistant. I think mine is rated at 1,400 degrees for 45 minutes.

Safes are worthless with slabbed cards.

Plastic doesn’t need to burn to melt.

Couple of different companies offer collectibles insurance. Collectables Insurance Service is one. If you have proper insurance, you don't need a safe. A giant safe is a cool thing to show your buddies.

Regarding the plastic PSA/BGS slabs melting on your precious cards, there is something called media safes which are insulated and will withstand heat better than standard ones...

I assume the premium is based on the amount of coverage, but what is the range of annual premiums?

Yes. I also subscribe to a monitored security service as well

Yes, 48 gun safe. Cards mostly disappear due to crack heads...not expert thieves or fires. A good safe bolted to the ground, against a wall with no way to flip it over offers plenty of protection. Insuring them as well isn't a bad idea.

No because if someone broke into my house they wouldn't be going after cards. They'd be going after all of the electronics, probably looking for watches / jewelry... etc.

If my house burned down I have more important things that go in my safe. That's what insurance is for anyways.

Plus I like to look at my cards so the nice ones are out on display around my house.

Y'all got any of them (scritch-scratch) PSA slabs?

Been kicking this idea around recently and never thought about the heat factor for plastic melting inside the safe. Pretty basic yet I was thinking about everything else but that.

I know about CollectInsure, and I'd love to hear about any other service any of you are using for insurance. It's past time for me to go this route.

+1 to CIS.

And a giant safe is cool, but if cash can't replace what's inside of it maybe don't show them lol.

You can buy fireproof bags. Just buy like two to be safe (no pun intended).

Can never be too safe these days. A lot of people on ebay ship to/from their house. It's easy for someone that bought a card to go - oh look, he has some monster cards for sale and he lives pretty close to me.

Living in an apartment I've got a bank teller safe. Works perfectly.

Mine is like the one on the left. Locking drawers that fit five rows of toploaders/one-touches like a glove and the combination section for my graded cards.

This is exactly why I only buy and sell busts like Josh Rosen. :flex:

Hey! There's still hope for him!

Shhh!

There is no hope for Rosen. He's an irredeemable bust with no future in the league aside from the occasional meme. The Bucs' practice squad is his last stop before he "retires" from his non-existent career and moves back to California to hit on tennis moms and chill in his hot tub. Everyone with a brain should immediately dump his cards for pennies. ;)

Unfortunately this is not true. Had my cards stolen along side a guitar, laptop, and other things you might think are more valuable.

yup cards are one of the more easy things to take. If they are encased and well protected, they know there is a good chance there's some good money from those cards. Very easy to sell too.

My super expensive ones are in a safety deposit box in the bank. I never thought I'd ever own anything so valuable, but they became so expensive I couldn't even have them in a safe in my home. I hate that I can't see them all the time, but I guess it's a good problem to have.

I dont. I have a beaded lizard and a few snakes in my card room that keep them safe.

No because if someone broke into my house they wouldn't be going after cards.

Speaking as someone who had a break in two decades ago and having 98% of my vintage hockey and baseball card collection stolen, this is a delusional pipe dream. My collection included several high grade Orrs, Howes, and a NM '58 Topps Hull rookie. None of it was ever recovered. I guarantee as soon as these scum bags see your cards, they're the first items to go.

Safes is too big to carry out so part of the family fire drill and clearing the safe is too grab the cards....That is not a lie, my wife thinks I am crazy when I say forget the pictures and grab the Jordans....

I have a small one for expensive cards and a fire resistant bag I have full of sealed wax for now. Wife got them for me for my birthday, they probably wouldn't save them in case of a fire due to the masses of plastic that surrounds them. They are small enough to grab and walk away with but they are kind of buried in the bowels of my basement storage area so they are somewhat safe.

insurance is more important than a safe, and both would be ideal. Most of the time your regular homeowners/renters policy can be updated to include specific coverage for your cards with a rider. A lot of them will even work with you on the total coverage figure, etc.

I use a safe deposit box at my bank (I dont have much that would require protection), a small safe at home, (few nicer cards, backup hard drive for important things like photos -also backed up in another offline location and google photos, passport, some cash, 1 credit card.)

I currently have a First Alert 2096F-BD which has a 1,700 degrees F for one hour rating. Do you think a gun safer is a "safer" choice. I was looking at the Liberty safes and they sure are nice. Is Liberty the main player in the safe arena? Or are other companies\brands just as good as long as at a minimum getting something over 60-minutes?
