View Full Version : NFL Prizm Update
I have this really weird feeling that they are going to do a surprise NFL Prizm Update with a condensed checklist and All NFL uniform rookies to “give us what we want.” Obviously it would be a cash grab, but I don’t see it out of the realm of possibilities.

The combine photos are vomit-inducing. But then an update is not really a true RC, is it?
I’m so sick of some of the over-recycled photoshopped uniform photos that panini has been using on so many releases this year. I get it and am thankful to have cards this year, but CeeDee Lamb has the same photo for his base in Prizm, Select XRC, Absolute, Certified, and Spectra.
Maybe Optic will be Panini’s chance to use some new photography from the season. The retro Rated Rookie made-to-order set seems to do this, so hopefully that is what they will use for the Optic photos.

the same retired players in every set is kind of annoying as well.

It will have a RC on it. The market decides the true rookie.

This is why select is my favorite year in and year out, although I worry they are watering it down bit by bit. But select usually has the best photography as its latest in the year.

Yep, would not be a true rookie.

Isn't that what Optic is?

Optic is its own product. I am saying it will be in the same design as the current prizm. Like how topps has its Update Series.

Remember when cards actually had cool in-game action pics.....card companies are so lazy now with lame stock images...

they had enough time to photoshop everyone if they really wanted to. Theyre just being lazy now, dont expect an update.

I’ve never been too into Panini Instant, but it’s been the only place to quench my thirst for new, non-photoshopped, non-college-uni photography.

This thread reminded me to put in an order for the 2020 Rated Rookie Retro set. Nice seeing a James Robinson rookie in a Jags uni.

Chronicles will essentially have a prizm update. Just like they did with NBA

I don’t think anyone would consider the combine photos real rookie cards if Prizm does update.
Having said that the most desirable rookies aren’t running the 40.

Topps did same thing. I get it, otherwise we'd just have photoshopped or training camp cards until late in the year. Topps does that update thing in baseball but those update rookies previously printed in series 1 or 2 do not carry even close to the same weight in the collecting world as their predecessors. I'm not certain football updates would follow same pattern since football collectors strongly desire NFL uniform cards.

I am not sure what collectors would prefer but the hypothetical update card would not be considered a rookie based on previous history and Beckett's standards. I can't remember the last update/supplemental set but in the early 1990's a player could not have a true rookie in an extended set if they were previously in the main set.
Not a fan of the 2020 Prizm aesthetic, but much prefer Black as it uses in-game.

1. No body cares what Beckett says anymore. Beckett is as relevant as VCR’s
2. The baseball card community has no problem distinguishing rookies in flagship topps update as RC’s even if they have a card in the previous series 1 or 2. I don’t think people would have a problem calling update prizm rookies and they would probably sell more if the photography was better or if the update was more limited

Baseball is a hot mess compared to football and basketball in regards to identifying a key rookie.
I do not question if the product would be more popular or valuable but that does not make it a rookie. Ripkens card in the traded set is an example of this I believe.
