So I'm a big collector of RPAs and autos, and have a lot of cards that are of the "THICCCC" variety: NT, Immaculate, Opulence, Noir, etc. Personally, I like having them in simple one-touches, especially with the Panini sticker (makes it still feel "new"), and don't mind tiny nicks on the edges and corners because I understand that they are handled by the players who couldn't give a crap if your card is an 8 or a 9.5. My eyes are generally drawn towards the patch and autograph, and I think the tiny imperfections on the card give it personality, but maybe that's just me.
However, with current values where they are, I can also see how a buyer would want the cards graded so they know exactly what they are getting. With so many shady people out there, it's tough to trust someone with thousands of dollars on the line to disclose any and all flaws, I get that 100%. However, once a card is slabbed my eyes are immediately drawn to the grade, and then my judgment is already influenced by that before I start looking at the card itself.
With a lot of life changes coming for me, I'm looking at thinning out my collection this year, and I saw that PWCC no longer accepts ungraded cards, which means I'm probably going to have to get all of my high-end cards graded. Bye bye Panini seals!
Anyway, I included a poll to see how you would prefer to buy an expensive card, and would like to have a discussion on the preferences and reasonings behind them.
