not new to ebay by any stretch, but really never have to return things. I just learned that a card i bought on november 30th, was trimmed (did a 5 day with psa) and luckily unlike my other 5 day that was subbed like a month before this one, this popped today. today is now a month later, and i guess i have a few days given it was delivered 12/2, but i want to just nip this in the bud now. The card will be here monday, but i do have the PSA snippet from the order stating "evidence of trimming" what is the best option to select on the return? is it doesn't seem authentic? or doesn't match description?
thank you
1/7/21 update: ebay just decided the case in my favor. I have been advised by a fairly prominent hobby buddy (who isnt on this forum) to send this back not using the label they'd make him send me but rather pay the extra money on my own to either USPS next day it or 2 day fedex/UPS and signature confirmation. With tax this was well over $2600 so i dont mind shelling out $20-$30 on my own dime just to cover my a$$ here. My only issue is who is actually enforcing sig confirmation anymore with covid? I don't mind paying for the service, but they sure as hell better walk up to the door and get a signature haha. Does anyone know my best route? Thanks!

morality aside, if you want to return it, "item not as described" is the way to go. i don't know that i've seen the buyer lose ever with that. the only times i've used it have been where there was clear damage that was not called out in the listing description or in the photos, but i've seen people claim that with much less.

no, my advice helps the buyer get refunded regardless. i didn't give any judgement, but i'm sure you'll hear from both sides shortly.

What’s the card? Link the closed auction so we can see.

You have no worries on a legit problem like yours. Some guys return a card because of friggin tiny scratches on a damn BGS holder!!

Lol, I'm against returns as much as the next one but a trimmed card is 100% an acceptable return if not disclosed.

In defense of the seller, I'm sure others may have mentioned this before.
I bought packs of cards direct from every company in various years. I submitted thousands of cards for grading to both PSA and BGS.
I received an "Altered" grade, citing trimming on a pack pulled card.
I sent the same card to the competitor grading company and got the same result, which I then disputed (so to speak) by mentioning to my account rep that I pulled the card myself.
The answer I got made sense. He said, the grading company measures the cards and if it falls short of the standards, it can't be graded. He said he knows, a lot of these cards are not trimmed in the aftermarket, but are "mis-cuts" in production.
So, when you deal with the seller, try to be professional and polite, not accusational, but factual in your request for a refund or compensation. He (or she) either may have acquired it in the secondary market themselves unbeknownst to them, trimmed, or it could be a production flaw.
If they're difficult to deal with or are rude to you, know that you have enough evidence to then force a refund, especially if you used Pay Pal and a credit card, you could take it up to the merchant account level as a chargeback.

I believe that strengthens the argument to not return it to the seller.
The buyer was trying to find a larger profit by buying raw and getting it graded, they took a shot, the card came back trimmed.
The thought of returning it to the seller shouldn't even be an option.
The only option is to send it back to the manufacturer.

thats not even close to right but okay. i discussed condition with the seller prior to purchase, he even said it had some surface scratching and probably wouldn't grade well, but the card itself is quite rare and i knew picking it up over having a good grade mattered more. This was already known, heck if it 5ed or 6ed i wouldnt be thrilled but knowing its legit would be good enough for when i eventually re sell, not being able to have it slabbed with a number grade period is the issue...i cannot in good faith sell this to another customer with it being considered trimmed..thanks for your thoughts though..
edit: in fact in the same order, i had a couple rare lebrons graded, i got them for a good price but they came back a 6 and an 8, i will not be cracking these despite the low grades, the cards themselves are rare and i know the value of having cards slabbed with a number grade for when i re sell. if the next buyer wants to crack and re sub to try and get a better grade, god bless em, but nowadays expensive and rare cards almost all should be slabbed when re selling, takes away any ambiguity or fraud or anything for an in good faith sale.

I guess we just disagree on who holds responsibility to a card, at the moment it was found to be trimmed.
(I don't think the seller trimmed it, if he did then that is a different story.)
However, if it is trimmed from the factory (miscut, extra cardboard,.etc) I believe that the responsibility falls upon the owner (at that time) of the card.
Just my opinion. :)

not to keep bumping this, but i really kind of need to get this rolling..im sure someone here is far more knowledgeable than I when it comes to shipping lately, as i hardly ever ship out. Really genuinely do appreciate any insight here, just was advised that signature should almost be a must here given the value, and the seller obviously not happy about me returning his trimmed card. I want to give him no outs for this return to go through properly.
edit: and yes i will share the card once the return is complete, its a fairly sought after higher end card from the 2000s, so as soon as i can get this back safe and returned i will certainly make everyone aware.
