Hi, can somebody give me a general rule of thumb on the price of a BGS 10 (not black label) compared to a PSA 10 in the same card? Thank you

I’d ask Joe Clemons; he’s our resident BGS 10 expert.

BGS 10 = Pristine
PSA 10 = Gem Mint

That's why he's saying you can't really compare them. They are different conditions. But a Pristine would normally outsell a Gem Mint. The exact cost difference will depend on the card.

A better comparison would be:

BGS 9.5 = Gem Mint
PSA 10 = Gem Mint

Go look at comps on the same card. Like a Juan Soto US300. The price difference will become abundantly clear.

In general, at least a 50% premium.

I think PSA 10 is more likely to be compared with BGS 9.5 (quad 9.5s or better).

I think it depends on whether it is a RC or not. If a rookie I would think 2X a PSA 10. For a non Rookie maybe 25%-30% higher than a PSA 10. JMO

There is no general rule - it has to be case by case depending on the card ( IMO )

I.e. —- look how few exist of a PSA 10 ‘93 SP jeter - now what happens when / if there is ( may be already? ) a BGS 10 —- you can throw your calculator out the window - it can’t predict that

Now take a 2011 Trout US175 PSA 10 and the same card in BGS 10 —- probably has happened enough times to get some kind of consistent multiplier :coffee:

How about ‘86 Fleer Jordan PSA to BGS 10 ?????

And as another dynamic, take this PSA / BGS match up on a key vintage card - if the BGS 10 happens, the gloves are off!

I can’t believe on a recent Luka Silver Prizm rookie I was suprised PSA 10 is around 9k and BGS 10 was around 43k?!?!

Any grade above MINT is a sucker's grade and is marketing nonsense from all the companies. However, it's smart marketing nonsense and works great.

Disagree - it’s a rarity - rarity ( in part ) drives value
-and BTW —- I don’t even own a BGS 10 / my comment is unbiased

Exactly... This is why the PSA 10's are so over priced. BGS 10 is even worse; but BGS 10's are pretty rare. I submit like 100 cards with sub grades that are in the gem mint range; and i might have 1-2 that's a 10. Never hit a black label.

Me personally i prefer the BGS 9.5 gem mint for modern cards. The case is secure/water proof. BGS to me is more consistent with their grades. They have sub grades on them. I also like the look of the gold BGS label ; on a chrome/prizm card. I'm fine with PSA for vintage; as i look at it more as authentication at that point.

1 of 2 out of 2,145 graded. Should it get a premium over a PSA 10?

I agree with this.

I had a BGS 10 high-dollar prizm listed at less than half the price of a PSA 10, no one was offering. I sold it for 30% more.

It later sold for almost the identical price [less than 2% off].

Another rule of thumb for a BGS 10 I have used is 10x a raw price. Not exact and again depends on player, rarity, and if it is RC.

Looks like a PSA 10, a PSA 9, a BGS 9.5, BGS 9, and a Black Label to me.

Agreed - virtually any graded card with any of the above grades you mention, looks consistently and often undetectably similar to the other 4.
However - if it’s a card that’s been graded enough, “The Market” has given these 5 different possibilities definable and sometimes drastic different prices.

Not saying that’s right or wrong - just saying “it is what it is” :)!

For me personally, due to the above, I only buy BGS 9.5 and PSA 10 —— I find those 2 grades, and those 2 only, of the 5 you mentioned, as the “sweet spot” of combining a card with the graded aspect that equals its best VALUE

doesn’t make the other options not viable / they just don’t make sense for me. I would rather have (8) BGS 9.5’s or PSA 10’s then (1) Black Label of the same card for the same price :)!

2X this especially as far as the rarity aspect goes :)!

BGS 10's should & always be the ultimate conditioned cards on the market,& have the highest value that comes with a pristine perfect card,
a lot of PSA 10's are really only BGS 9 at best.
PSA 9=BGS 8.5.
Don't compare a grading company Like the very overrated PSA company that every dodgy seller & buyer's is smelling there private parts over owning these cheap looking slabs with no sleeves to properly protect there P.C or investment cards.
& on top of that they changed there paper labels that wrinkles in just a few years time & now have changed them to make people who have any older PSA holders to have to pay yo get it reslabbed to there new version,

BGS slabs or cases are perfect & will be the winner of all grading companies in the future.
They don't have to change a thing,
With PSA cases no matter what grade you end up with.
They all look the bloody same,
If you are a real collector of fine cards regardless of the value.

Your cheap BGS graded cards still look exquisite in every way when you get anything 8.5 & over.
Beckett's grading makes every other grading company look like 3rd rate promo cards in Comparison....

I agree with the 2-4X rule, depending on the card and population.

Black Labels may be like 4-8X.

Agree that the PSA 10 premium and BGS 10 , Black Label is kind of a scam..... but it's also the premium the market pays.

Your basically paying for the accuracy of a person looking at cards all day. There are such minor differences in flaws from a 9 to 10; it's wild the premium's, but people want the 10. They'd rather have a PSA 10 with a flaw, than a PSA 9 or BGS 9 or 9.5 with no flaws.
