New York Knicks 2021 Thread!!!

Alright this is clearly the high point as a Knicks fan - to start the year 3-3 with the schedule they had is awesome.

A few observations I have made:

1) If RJ Barrett has truly improved his FT shooting he could be a very good piece to this team long term.

2) Mitchell Robinson not fouling as much is huge and was clear with his game saving block the other night against the Pacers.

3) Julius Randle is actually fun to watch this year and might net something ok at the trade deadline and by ok I mean like a second rounder or end of the first round pick. Which prior to the start of this year would have been unthinkable.

4) Immanuel Quickley actually looks good and could be a great piece to this team long term - I don't think he's the answer at PG and they still need a young PG to grow with Mitch and RJ but he could be a good 3&D guy for this team who can also help fill in at PG in spurts.

Feel free to discuss any other optimism you may have prior to them going on the inevitable 15 game losing streak at some point soon.

RJ hitting some 3's last game was nice haha! I think he went like 21 straight missed 3s. Mitchell has improved his defensive game. You're 100% right, he's stayed out of foul trouble. He just needs to improve his offensive game (Develop a mid range game with an occasional 3).

I'm not too big on Randle. Yes, he's been great this season, but he turns the ball over so much and I like when the Knicks move the ball around as a team. Randle will iso and either get a post shot or kick it out for a contested 3.

I think Quickley needs to be the starting PG. He brings amazing energy and he looked fantastic in the pre-season.

Overall, 3-3 for the Knicks is good lol. I can't complain about that.

The knicks need to keep Randle. Pick up the option and possibly give him an extension. He’s better then anybody else you guys have.

This year he has been the Knicks best player but he puts up empty stats on losing teams. He would be great if you already had one or two established superstars but its all about timing. You can't have him on your books for 20M+ and still have cap room to bring in more players.

He is the ideal trade candidate for picks and a bad expiring contract to a team he can help put over the top. If he is your best player you aren't winning anything and if he is already eating up a substantial portion of your cap space unless you get super lucky you aren't getting another superstar to pair with him.

Honestly it kind of reminds me of how I thought of Kevin Love with Minnesota - obviously not the same style of play or as good - but a guy that is good but not good enough to carry a winning team. But Kevin Love on the cavs with Kyrie and Lebron was an awesome spot for him to be in.

I agree that Quickley should be the starting PG this year over Payton - I think he is a good PG to put with forwards who can distribute the ball too because hes a good shooter and doesn't need the ball in his hands to impact the game.

They are playing well - this team could at least be pesky this year which is so much more than they have been for the past 15 years.

Another great come from behind win for the Knicks tonight! Down 18 in the game! RJ was off but a great game from Randle and an unbelievable fourth quarter from Austin Rivers!!!

Also Mitch looked great tonight and showed how much he can impact a game when he’s not in foul trouble!

I am a lifelong Knicks fan dating back to 1976 and I am pleasantly surprised by the start they have had this season. Randle has been great and RJ is showing flashes of how good he can be. Not sure if they can keep it up, but I am optimistic in the future of this franchise for the first time in a loooonnnnggg time.

RJ has been playing great hes been around 50% from the field for the last 5 games and his FT shooting has improved a ton since last year. Nice to see him get to the line 8 times last night for sure.

He has a reputation of being a REALLY hard worker and look what he did with his free throws - 61% last year everyone said it needed to be fixed he comes back this year and is up to 75%. I think next will be his jump shot then he will be a very good player.

Absolutely agree. Randle should definitely stay around. If they can get one big name to want to come play in NY at some point they might be able to do some damage. And that’s something I didn’t think I’d be saying anytime soon.
